Malcom is right about Warrick friggin' Holdman with regard to run assistance, but Carter was still more of a liability than an asset in the run stopping department. Carter did step up his game as far as rushing the passer late in the season, but he got the nickname "Highway 99" for a reason. And I think Renaldo Wynn is gonna get cut...

I never understood why Wynn never got more of a luck at DT. He's not great at any position either position, but he could eat up space, I'd assume. However, none of that matters to me now, they should probably think about restructuring him rather than cutting him, IMO. I don't think they have enough depth to start cutting backups.

From the depth stadnpoint I agree FOR NOW. BUT, if we can bring in a guy like Ian Scott, draft one of the sparkling DL talents in the first round, and hope Golston and Montgomery continue to improve, Wynn could be expendable. It's also important to note that Wynn has been asked to restructure to a $1.2M non-guaranteed contract, and if he doesn't he'll probably be cut June 1st. Cutting him would save us $2.5M!!

adams has room for 15-25 more pounds, which, if he's willing to hit the weight room hard, could make him a much more complete player.

I think there's a lot of upside with this guy. But one thing is clear: whether we sign Gaines Adams or Wednesday Addams, we have to figure out who we are on offense -- i.e., a Gibbs "grind 'em" team or a Saunders "mix-it-up" team. Our D was on the field way, way too much last year, and even the best talent will wilt eventually if you cannot sustain drives on offense. And without a beter offensive identity, it is unclear that we will do that.

In other words, players aside, the coaching needs to be better (never thought I'd say that of a Gibbs team).

Adams is too small. Liability in the run game.Another Adre Carter. Good prospect but, not for us right now.

the liability against the run was DT #2 (regarless of who was manning the position), carter, holdman, and marshall had a down year and got stuck on a lot of blocks do to blockers getting through to him.

One is fine, and gives us a solid pass rushing threat. In three years, Adams will probably be better than Carter, but theres just little value in such a move for our team in a time when getting all the value we can out of this pick is crucial.

On top of that, I think it was not only DT 2, but DT 1 and both ends. We just werent any good on the defensive line last year. I think we would have been much lower than 22 vs the run had we not had a secondary that thwarted all plays to the outside.

Espec. a guy like Wynn, who is a big locker room guy too I'd like to keep around. I didnt think Wynn was too bad in his role last year as a backup, he was servicable as a backup, but we cant be paying him what we are for that role.

We were much lower against the run -- #27 to be exact.

Other than that, I agree with everything you said. Apart from Golston, Montgomery, and Carter, our defensive line is old, and they suck.

1) by losing all those games, we got run on more than an average team
2) teams like the Jets and the Colts were SO bad against the run that it skews the average towards us

But the point I'm trying to make is that if it wasn't for our secondary, we would have been much worse against the run. We probably didn't have a top 30 defensive line last year.

Our pass defense couldn't have gotten any worse, but our run D certainly could have.
