For the money spent Smoot was a good aquisition for a team that was lacking in the secondary department. There's a saying that goes something like this "you dont miss something until it's gone" when you look at the performance of Wright and Rumph last season, the signing of Smoooot makes perfect sense. Of course we would have loved to have someone like Clements, but the fact of the matter is that the Skins simply did not have the kind of money that he was asking for. In addition you have to look at the history of the Skins signing free agents to big money and the they dont pan out. Oh by the way we have one of the highest paid SS in the league and he doesnt start.

Hail to the Redskins!

So please tell me who we can get thats better than Smoot.I mean for only a 21 million dollar contract?Smoot played good as a Skin,is he a #1 CB.Probably not thats why we drafted Rogers. This is Rogers 3rd year and he must prove that he is the #1 CB.If he's not going to be that guy.Well then i guess we will be looking for another CB next year.Point is Smoot is a good #2 and great for depth.Something we need bad and some of the people in here are right.ITs a good thing your not running our front office.

Why is everyone saying that Smoot will be a #2 corner? Are we really depending on Springs to 1. be the #1 and 2. stay healthy? Help me out on this one please.

yeah, we need springs to be the #1, cause rogers and smoot probably can't handle it.

but seriously, smoot played with a broken sternum... a BROKEN STERNUM! throwing up during half times cause of the pain, then coming back out and playing well. He had a couple bad years in minnesota, but very little of that got back here, because when he was here, he played hard, even when we were losing.

i cant stand fred smoot. hes a fan lollypop, everyone loves to yell smoooooot when he makes a play. same with cooooooley, shit anyones name they can do that with people love. lets not forget this loud mouth penalty making machine. he loves washington, no shit, we welcome him with open arms. hes not that good people. the only quality about him i like is that hes physical. but does getting smoot really better our situation, NOOOOO!!!! we are still trying to aquire more corners, why! if smoot was that good we would be done shopping.

can someone please explain to me why nobody other than myself has critisized this move bringing him here.....?

Because mostly all of us agree that it was a good move to get Smoot back, and was a bad move to ever get rid of him in the first place.

Here is another pro Smoot comment: He was also apart of the 2004 defense that was so damn good. He's just one player, but in my mind, a very good one that was ripe for the picking. Good job F.O.!!!!!!

Fred Smoot is a fan favorite, his play for the Redskins MADE him the fan favorite and he earnt the adulation he gets from us. The chants of "Smooooooooot" are due to this, not because he has a cool name!
Same with Cooley, if he plays like Christian Fauria we don't scream "Cooooley", simple as.
Getting Smoot here definitely upgrades our CB depth, MUCH rather have Smoot out there than Wright/Rumph - anyone who thinks otherwise had better step away from the crackpipe!
If Smoot was so good we would be done CB shopping? I didn't realise he could morph into more than 1 person - did you see a game last year, our CB play (and depth) was terrible, Smoot is just the first part of an upgrade (or overhaul) - with better corners we might just cover WRs long enough to allow our D-line to get to the QB this year.
We're bringing in a guy that already knows the staff, players, system, location, owner - a guy that will have no problems settling in.
Loud mouth penalty machine - I'll agree with you on the 1st (but not about Fred Smoot) :-p
Why is no-one else critisizing the move? A rhetorical question if you ask me.
Go watch some Skins games from back in Smoots early days and you should remember what we all do.

I admit that I haven't seen Smoot play much the last two years. Who wants to watch Minnesota playing in that shitty dome? However, his play here was fine. The reason he was a fan favorite is that he played well, and with tremendous courage. I agree that sometimes fans like a player so much they can't see it when he starts to suck (cough Lavar) and Smoot may have gone downhill fast, but I didn't see it two years ago. He is still relatively young and if he is injury free, I expect good things.
