I remember reading an article several seasons ago where the general consensus among personell people was that there were about 3-4 good kickers and then like 30-40 guys who were just about the same. At one point Mare was probably one of the 3-4 good ones but now he is just one of the others. I don't think Suisham is any better or worse but he does have his age(less money) and upside. Mare's on the down side. Let's just let Suisham have the job. Show him some confidence and hopefully that'll keep his up. I think the confidence is incredibly important in these guys. No need to mess with it in this situation.

signing mare would be wasted money.
he's a lateral move from who we've got, and a much older guy too.
Mare doesn't have much left. I would definitely pass.
Suisham is a keeper.
He has earned the right to have a shot.
Larry Michael suggested we get Mark Mosely to teach him how to kick straight on so he can play 20 years..............sounds reasonable

Suisham deserves the spot, and it'd be nice to keep some continuity there. Kickers develop timing w/holders & snappers.
The boys let him go cause the Tuna is impatient w/kickers, a flaw of his coaching that deserves a lot more scrutiny that he's ever gotten. Remember how he booted cundiff & brought in the Latino dude (forgot his name) that Larry Allen was about to crush one game? They might've made the playoffs that year if they'd stuck w/cundiff.

i think vandy was more on JJ than parcells...
as far as "the Latino dude" - jose cortez, who also kicked (terribly) for us under spurrier. he escaped a civil war - great story; crappy kicker. I laughed soo hard when i heard about that signing... of course, the redskins weren't exactly burning it up either :/.
