Didn't anyone learn from Brandon Lloyd that we shouldn't renegotiate contracts when there is still a year remaining on them? The reason Bly wants to come here is at least partially because we are the only team that would do that.
There is always the strong possibility that Bly is using the Redskins as leverage to extract a new contract from Denver.
But I don't see why you would want to swap one old corner for another old corner who you are going to give a huge contract to. To me that seems crazy.
The Danny also gave Santana Moss a big new contract when he was traded from the Jets even though he still had a year left. I'm not necessarily advocating the strategy, but it doesn't seem fair to mention Llyod without also admitting that the same move worked out pretty well with Santana.

Im sorry, am I the only one who thinks this would be an upgrade? Bly is a few years younger, seems less injury prone, has consistently been a threat for interceptions, and is also a hard hitting player (he has averaged about 4 Forced Fumbles over the past 5 years). The only reason I can think of that this would be a bad move would be for the sake of chemistry, but I would take that risk for a player who consistently creates turnovers which is something we seldom did last year. Now Im not saying Id be willing to trade something significant for him, but a straight up swap of springs for bly....I would take it in a heartbeat!!

bly is only a slight upgrade over springs, but the contract he is looking for should keep him away from the skins

hmmmmm?.......it would be interesting but i think springs is a better corner...i hope that if infact we do deal him to someone else we get good value for him

bly isn't bad... but i wonder what his contract figures would be. if we're trading springs for a more expensive contract, i'm not really sure that's a very good idea.

Anybody know Bly's contract? I would trade Springs for Bly either straight up or us getting our 3'rd rounder back if the cap hit is reasonable. I'd rather have bly who wants to be here than Springs who doesn't.

well, bly is 1year 4.2mill, but he wants a new deal, and synder would give him one. we'd have to know what numbers they were throwing around before we could tell about cap implications.
post june, springs would count 2.5mill this year and 5mill next year (pre june, it'd be 7.3mill this year), but he might forgive some future money to help him get traded.

Springs is better than Bly, I have no doubts about that.....
But does anyone know Bly's liablilty. I'm a huge Shawn Springs fan, and I would love to have him on the team next season, but I'd rather have Bly for 14 games, than Springs for 8

I agree I think a HEALTHY Springs is a better corner than Bly. This is the first I've heard of Springs being unhappy in DC?
However, I don't think we'll get a FULL year out of Springs. Bly has been very consistent, and seems to make it through the years, all games. Last Year played all 16. Missed very few games in his career.

Well Moss turned out to be a great player, but that says nothing about the strategy of unnecessarily giving players under contract new deals.
