Maybe this is what we need, someone who is much cheaper than Davis

Petitgout went to high school about twenty miles from me. He has maintained his southern DE roots despite his moderate success in the league. If the Redskins can sign him, I'd be delighted.

Ah, a Sussex County native? I did not know. That automatically increases my interest in him, seriously.

Yeah, Tony. He went to Sussex Central, but I didn't follow high school football at the time. I don't remember him setting the world ablaze, but tackles rarely do.

Stories abound of visits he's made to Dewey Beach, at least once with Shockey in tow.

Petitgout Visits Redskins Park

Free agent offensive lineman Luke Petitgout visited Redskins Park on Monday.
Petitgout has played his entire 8-year NFL career with the New York Giants. He has mostly played left tackle throughout his time with the Giants.

In 1999, Petitgout's rookie season, he started eight games at left guard. A year later, he moved to right tackle, where he started all 16 games.

In 2001, Petitgout moved to left tackle, a position he has occupied through last season.

If signed by the Redskins, the 6-6, 310-pounder could be slotted to take over the left guard position. Derrick Dockery, last year's starter, signed with the Buffalo Bills last Friday.

Petitgout could also serve as a backup at either tackle positions along the offensive line.

Petitgout was slowed by back problems in 2003, but otherwise has been durable and consistent with the Giants. He has missed just 15 games in his career, started 106-of-113 games.

Last season, Petitgout started nine games at left tackle, then suffered a fractured fibula that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Petitgout, who grew up in Milford, Del., played his college ball at Notre Dame. He was the Giants' first-round draft pick (19th overall) in the 1999 NFL Draft.

If HEALTHY? he might be a good fit?

If healthy he'd be a great pickup. I love the fact he can play guard and tackle.

Sounds alot better than going into the draft with a gaping hole in the OL.

I still think trading down and getting a pair of lineman is the best bet, regardless of if we get LP. With our caliber coaches I think it's a pretty damn good investment.

Also, What kind of trade bait is Betts at the moment? From what I hear we backed out of the Vilma trade, so what are our other options?

I'm not trying to dump him, I'm just curious to how juicy the pickups could potentially be from trading our backup running back.

I'm trying, but I just can't get too pumped about Petitgout.

I hear you, but if the price is right, he'd be a real gem of a free agent pickup. Could be one of the more underrated acquisitions this season. OL depth is something we needed, and he'd fill that role perfectly.

I thought he'd been around longer than eight years -- turns out he was drafted in the same class as Jansen.

I'm a card-carrying member of the Trade Ladell Betts If The Deal Is Sweet Enough club - in my mind, I just can't imagine sitting on him with all the gaping holes we still have on defense.

I just feel like there are teams out there that would be willing to give up an awfull lot for him. The man had 1,000 yds on 6 starts.

I have no problem holding on to him if we don't get offered anything that crazy, I just have a feeling that by draft time someone will realize they want Betts real bad.
