That's what I was afraid of when I saw Steve Hutchinson money being thrown at this guy. The Bills just signed one of their own free agents, DE Chris Kelsay to a ridiculouosly generous contract. Kelsey will make $5.4 mil per season. He plays on the right side and shares snaps with another DE. Our Pro Bowler Aaron Schobel signed a contract last year paying him $3.8 mil and he carries these other guys. He had 15 sacks last year, Kelsay had 5.5.

I guess we'll find out if Dockery's worth it. The Bills line was horrible last year so anything should be an improvement.

You never know. This contract may represent where the market is. The cap is way up, so teams have money to blow and that may have driven up the price. I don't think you'll have any reason to hate him. I just wouldn't be expecting perennial pro-bowls. He doesn't attract attention much - good or bad.

we just overpaid for london fletcher, too... I just hope he produces and helps our struggling run D and lets other people play their positions more...

we really didnt the market has gone crazy if you look at all the other signings they are crazy dock got 18 mill in guarantees nate c got 22 mill so compared to that fletch got a pretty reasonable deal

I wonder if the Bills are replacing Gandy... I'd consider picking him up. I bet he'd come cheap and probably fit in our system a little better...

anyone know much about him?

Can anyone tell me about offensive guard Derrick Dockery that the Buffalo Bills just paid $49 million over seven years? In the Buffalo media they claim this guy is a stud, that Dockery was a large part of the Redskins rushing success last season. Is this guy really a stud? Is he overrated? Is he the superb run blocker that he is billed to be in the Buffalo press? Would you have preferred that he resigned with the Redskins?

I'm pretty much going to echo what others had to say about Dock. He's a good guy, an above-average guard, and you will like him. I read the Bills' press release and, contrary to its claims, he's not the best in pass protection, but he's a good road-grader. He doesn't have as much power as you would expect for a guy his size (he could be bullied by MLBs he was supposed to block on occasion), but he's still pretty powerful.

I don't think he's worth close to what you guys paid, but maybe I'm thinking in terms of 2006 cap dollars. The market is all screwy right now, so it's hard to assess whether you got him at a number above market-price, or way above market-price. Best of luck next season.

he was awfully lazy until his contract year. he was NO BETTER than our 3rd best offensive linemen last year, and that's an insane contract for his production.

I would have liked to keep him for continuity, but i don't think he's irreplaceable by any means. He's no where close to hutchinson.

In all fairness, scouts said that he would be a project when we drafted him. Most thought that he had the potential to be dominant but would take several years to develop. Maybe they were right and, with Buges' guidance, he's just now hitting his stride.

that's an awfully big risk to bet 49$mill on.

that's an awfully big risk to bet 49$mill on. The Redskins have taken that risk a few time and some have payed off other no so much! As for Dock I give him around 3 years before we all say I told you so when his name comes up on the cut list!
