I think with these contracts, Springs looks like a bargain. I hope it happens!

Springs seems to have the leverage now with the way these insane deals are being dealt out. I think the Skins will have to just offer him a straight restructure if they want any cap relief from him this year.

If they can keep Springs one more year and he can stay healthy and the Smoot thing isn't a cosmic joke at the expense of all of us, we might have a presentable defense next year. G. Williams can go back to his old blitzing ways. Hell, A.A might even get an occasional snap. (3rd and 60)

Matty's right. With the money being thrown around at free agents, all the leverage has shifted to Springs. If Gibbs REALLY wants to keep him then the Skins are going to have to dig down and make it worth Springs' while to restructure because the only chip the Skins have on their side of the table is to cut Springs.

Oh, that would be really horrible for him -- given that Michael Lewis just signed for $10 M up front and Lewis can't cover. Springs would just love to get cut so he can dip his beak into that trough of free agent cash...

We would have to be seven types of crazy to cut Springs. The only problem is we are at least five types of crazy and probably six.

Yeah, springs is still a good corner, and if he's an option at safety, we don't have the depth to get rid of him... he's a pro bowl talented corner who has done great for us when healthy.

I think smoot can probably beat out rogers for the number 2 spot, though...

I agree with you. Maybe some competition would be good for Rogers...

assuming that smoot is signed, what will be our defensive back scheme? Will springs become a safety? Will Rogers or smoot be the nickle, and was smoot just brought in to fill in for springs when he gets injured again?
