He got the same contract that Hutch got last year basically. Only in bizaro world is Dockery even in the same sentence as Hutch. I was for keeping Dock for continuity reasons and because he is certainly talented enough for a guard but the amount of money he got is totally stupid.

I don't want to hear any more f*cking bullshit from teams like Buffalo complaining about being small market teams and not being able to compete when now they're the ones blowing the market out of the water. 49 mil for Dock???? WTF??? Com'on!

he got the same contract because he is not even in his prime yet. The guy is a beast, he has only been in the league 4 years, a 3rd round pick, all american. It is a loss. we will have to overpay someone to take his spot.
and to say the Bills are blowing up the market, come on. we have blown up the market for the last 8 years. When does a punt return specialist and 3rd receiver get 10 million up front and 30+million, only on the Redskins. An unproven head case receiver gets the same deal. come on, seriously.

"When did he start talking in the third person?

Ever since Fred Smoot came back into town. By the way I got a big laugh out of the Leonard Davis T-Rex arms reference.

A 4 year player, started 64 games. a beast of a man. the 7 yr 49million deal in two years or 3 will look cheap to what we will have to pay a guy in that time to take his spot. Example - look at what we left Pierce go for, he signed a reasonable deal the the Gmen, when we low balled him. now we have struggled at the position for two years, and now will pay more for a 32 year old aging veteran.

I don't think Dock's contract will look cheap compared to any other guard. In fact, I would be shocked if his deal doesn't turn out to be the 2nd biggest contract for a guard in the history of the league. Again, those are Samuels or Pace type contract numbers. I GUARANTEE we will not pay his replacement the same type of numbers.

As for Pierce: (1) we ultimately offered him basically the same deal as the Gmen; (2) if Pierce got mad because we initially lowballed him, he needs to grow up because that is how negotiations work.

As I said before, I agree that Dock is a good player, it sucks to see him go, there is a perception that we only pay outsiders, and I would've liked to have seen him re-signed, but not at that price.

$49 milllion is a lot of money for a guy who can't pull.

Good point.

Hutchinson and Steinbach can pull.

never said pay him that much but a good team signs there players with a year of so left on their contract and keep their young talent like the eagles do. This should have been taken care off before he had a chance to hit FA>

I'm not sure why you make it seem like this is all on the front office.

It sure sounds like Dockery didn't want to be "take care of" prior to free agency, and with that insane deal the Bills gave him who can blame him?

There was no way we were going to give him that kinda deal, he chased the money and it worked in his favor.

I don't however hold this against the front office. If anything we should commend them for showing some restraint.

Where are you getting this? from your expert opinion or fact from somewhere. everywhere I read there are nothing but positives about Dock. everyone thinks he is a hell of a road grading run blocker. One coach said he was a guy that couldn't be bull rushed. Moves well for a guy that big. i have never heard he can't pull. Imagine that all this comes up when he decides to leave.

The team messed this one up. I am not saying 16 million up front isn't high, it is. But we overpay for everyone we sign in FA. Why not pony up some cash for our own players?

Not to be a ass hole but what memories do you have about Dock? He has not been this great player! He can be replaced with someone as good. He not S.Moss or Taylor! We will move on!

I was kind of writing that phrase in tongue in cheek. I remember that time he recovered that crucial fumble against Philly, I think. He was a solid player for us, but not the kind player you break the bank for. You're right he isn't the caliber of a Santana Moss, as far as importance to the team, that's for sure. Sean Taylor, well that's another story.

And by the way Dockery was the 3rd best player at his position behind Steinbach and Dielman for anyone keeping track. Dock was NOT the best guard available.

Derrick Dockery says
"This is a beautiful thing," said Dockery. "Derrick Dockery had a great time on his visit here in Buffalo. It's a top notch organization, owner, coach, the players, the fans, the city… they love their Bills and I'm really excited to be a part of it. Derrick Dockery love Buffalo

"When did he start talking in the third person?

When he saw 16 mill. up front.
