TheMalcolmConnection 03-02-2007, 11:16 AM What I think they're doing now is atoning for their mistakes. If they overpay for Dockery, then the cycle continues.
What I DO think is fair however, is for the Skins to match the top deal he gets offered from another team. That way the Skins can prove they are showing some loyalty and Dock will get HIS chance to prove it as well.
Rajmahal33 03-02-2007, 11:20 AM I agree that we should match an offer. Overall, I think this team should sign dockery over a big name FA (like say Clemente), but not over some of these role players. 5 role players (whose summed salaries wont be as big of a cap hit) outweigh Dockery being a primadonna. If dock goes we might still be able to chase one big name FA, in addition to fletcher
JWsleep 03-02-2007, 11:28 AM Dock is looking for the big payday...we can't give that. If the market drops for Dock, maybe we'll be able to woo him back, but I am doubtful.
I am glad to hear that Clements is pretty much too expensive for us, because it means, for the first time, that it is possible for a player to be too expensive for us!
Cheaper FAs, trade down in the draft, and work with what we got. Hope we land smooty, and that he's ready to re-establish his career.
BangCartoon 03-02-2007, 11:38 AM Two true Redskins.
Regardless of any cap savings, I'm glad they did this. Thomas is our best lineman, and Sellers is nothing but a football player cut from the old mold.
Very happy with this.

TheMalcolmConnection 03-02-2007, 11:39 AM Not only that, I'm happy to see they're anticipating the contracts going up exponentially. Good to sign him now before the inflation later on.
firstdown 03-02-2007, 11:53 AM I think it will be a shame not to resign Dockery. He has turned into a dominant run blocker, which if you are trying to have a run first offense, would seem a pretty big priority. Plus the guy is so young and has many years left to improve. Plus the cohesion of this offensive line has been remarkable. they performed as good or better than any O line in the league. I think it sends a wrong message to the other guys on this team, that they are willing to overpay for unproven players (Randel el, Lloyd,Carter) and overpay for veterans (arch, apparently Fletcher) and not pay their own players they draft. Dock will get paid by another team if we are not willing to give a fair deal to him. There are a lot of teams out there that will pay him if we wont.
I agree it will be a shame but until we some idea what he is asking for there is just no way of knowing who's draging this along him or our front office. I'm glad to see the resignings and would like to see us use Sellors mors around the goal line. I think that in )^ we did not use him as we did in 05 which we should have.
I know some people may never understand this, but we can't bust the bank on Dockery. If he wants a signing bonus of $17M forget about it, he's just not worth it. Let someone else overpay for a slightly above average player.

EXoffender 03-02-2007, 12:06 PM I like the idea of re-signing Fox. Insurance policy for Archuleta.
We're always wishing the Skins would be more financially responsible... but for some reason that has gone out the window lately when talking about Dockery.
He's not a player you look at and say we need to sign this guy at any cost.
Yes, continuity and rewarding your own are important things, but with the crazy deals that will be coming down this offseason we need to keep things in perspective. I mean c'mon, Nate Clements getting a bonus of $24M??!! That is freaking insane!
Dockery is the 5th best lineman we have... at best he's tied for 4th best with Rabach. He isn't irreplaceable. Far from it.
