FRPLG 03-01-2007, 08:42 PM Reports are that Clements wants to be paid more than Champ Bailey, what was his deal, like 6 years for 63 million, we just dont have the money for that. Dont forget the best redskins defense in the past 5 years had a squad full of nobodys. Thats basically the D that created Fred Smoot, Antonio Pierce, Lemar Marshall, Ryan Clark, Walt Harris, and a few others. Its always funny to me how quickly Redskins fans forget things, Fred Smoot was great when he was here and then we lowballed him, the same way we low balled Pierce and Ryan Clark. We need to start saving money, eventually we will have to re-sign Taylor and Cooley and if we go after Clements that could prevent us from doing so, just my opinion though.
We didn't low ball Pierce and Smoot. The contract structures were different because of our cap situation and the deals they took gave them more money early in the contract. Clark was simply not retained. I don't even know if we offered him did we?

I'm of the belief that we can afford anything we want. Contracts can be very creative.
As far as lowballing Smoot and Pierce,, Pierce only had one yr of starting under his belt and demanded too much. Smart move on the Fo's part, course, hindsight is always 20/20.
Smoot went to Minnesota and promptly proved why he wasn't worth what he got, and we did the right thing in that case. I don't think that Smoot can cover any team's number one receiver.
i say let him keep walking.
And thank you Lady Brave. My usual haunts (no names mentioned) are getting way too crowded, and it's getting impossible to have any sort of intelligent discussion about Redskins football.
Glad to be here.

We did low ball Pierce, I forgot that Smoots deal was front loaded. Pierce was Low balled and many sports writers in this area said so. Honestly, I dont think we did offer anything to Clark, you definately could be right about that one.
With that said I would love to see us pick up Ken Hamlin, Dewayne White and Fred Smoot. We need to re-sign Dock, I just dont see how we can let him walk like this, it really kills me.

I honestly believe we could sign Clements and Fletcher, I just dont think it would be a good idea, and my thought is that if we sign Clements than we need to re-sign Dock with what we have left and stop shopping there.

I could go along with that, but I think MLB is a definite need.. unfortunately the best way to fill it is with an old man.
Say,, I wonder if Cincy is tired of Odell Thurman yet?
See,, we wrangle Odell away from Cincy, put a chain around his neck and lock him up until Sunday,, once a week throw 30 pounds of raw meat and a woman in his cage, and that would suit me just fine.

What are your thoughts on Rob Morris as a stop gap? I believe he is a free agent, and what about Mike Doss too?
