If we draft him, he's got to go behind Andre Carter on the depth chart. We simply can't afford to play both of them. They will have to compete for the starting job (that's not a bad thing).
Draft Branch (or Okoye).
that is crazy we could play them both look at the colts robert mathis and dwight freeney they both start oposite each other and they each had 10 plus sacks in 2005 we can do that carter and adams would create alot of pressure and cause alot of interceptions for carlos rogers (if he can hold on to them) sean taylor, and hopefully nate clements

Hey they did win the SB and they played great in the postseason.

True enough, but I've gotta agree with GTripp, I don't like the idea of two pure-pass rushers lined up as our DEs. It might be good for the pass rush, but hurt our already porous run-defense.

Could we please get off this idea that Adams and Carter are the same player or even comparable. One is a consensus top ten pick and the other was a cast off from a team that won like three games.
Everybody wanted Branch but 1. Like me, the coaches know we don't need a DT as badly as a DE and, 2. it turns out Branch is lazy.
I still say they should trade down though.

Hey they did win the SB and they played great in the postseason. That unit did a heck of a job 4 weeks in a row.
But they clearly overachieved the standard they set for themselves through the entire regular season.
I am hesitant to believe that the Colts defensive system will work for a prolonged period of time without the talent.

I still say they should trade down though.I think that if Adams hits his potential he will be better than Carter vs. both the pass and the run.
But the point remains that he would be replacing Andre Carter, not helping him. Replacing Carter means 10 million MORE pissed away on top of Archuleta's 10 mil and Lloyd's 10 mil.
We don't have the money to keep wasting. We can't afford to not get SOME return on our 2006 investment. We have to make this Carter thing work.
I don't like it, but its the bed we made for ourselves.

Anyone know about this DE from Nebraska? The people at the combine are raving about him. 6'6 290lbs. They say he's strong against the run, and can rush the passer.

He's the DE I'd want to have, but we are going to have to trade down to get him. He's probably going to go in the lower third of the first round.

They're obviously not exactly alike, but they're definately comparable. Both are speed rushers (I heard Adams called himself as much at the combine), both are about 260 lbs., and neither is known for being stout against the run. I don't see how comparisons can't be drawn. Moreover, I doubt that Adams is particularly strong when he is willing to run the 40 because speed is his strength and is unwilling to do the bench press. His failure to take part in the bench press exercise simply adds to the perception that he is not exactly strong (at least as far as Pro DEs go).
I don't doubt that Adams will have a good career. I don't doubt that Adams is a good pass-rushing DE. But, I do doubt that Adams and Carter would be an effective duo at stopping the run. He seems like more of an OLB in a 3-4 alignment than a true, every-down 4-3 DE.
