Pocket$ $traight 02-27-2007, 11:17 PM How many 330 lbs. are in good shape? Vince Wilfork is a total fat slob, but still gets the job done. I've unloaded deuces from my ass that looked prettier than Pat Williams or Sam Adams, but those boys (as in Williams and Adams) have been effective for years.
It's simply crazy for teams to place a lot of stock in the combine. If a good combine=a good player, Robert McCune would be an All-Pro by now.
Very true. B-Mitch was talking about the combine today. There are combine prep schools now that train the players on how to get the best numbers.
At the end of the day what really matters is how they perform against elite competition, not how many times they benched 225 or how fast they ran a 40.
Btw, all accounts are that Calvin Johnson is an absolute freak of nature. He has the best hands, jumps the highest and runs in the 4.3's at over 230 pounds. Last but not least, no one could stop him last year.
Whoever gets him is going to be lighting cigars on draft day.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 02-27-2007, 11:19 PM Don't Ends generally have better stats than Tackles anyway?
Particularly when you are talking about space-eaters like Branch. Branch isn't the kind of player who is going to get 5 tackles and a sack every game. He's the kind of guy who keeps Olinement off of LBs and lets OTHER guys get the stats.
skinsfan_nn 02-27-2007, 11:24 PM Don't Ends generally have better stats than Tackles anyway?
As this forum shows depends on who you ask??? They should be comparable.....
AlvinWalton'sNeckBrace 02-27-2007, 11:54 PM A defensive tackle's stats should NOT be comparable to a DE's...If that's true, why don't we compare a corner's to a Safety's...they both play in the secondary

Mel Kiper - TCU's Tomlinson wows at combine - ESPN.com (http://espn.go.com/melkiper/s/2001/0227/1113401.html)
"I've saved the best for last. The player who most improved his draft position at the WR spot was without question UCLA's Freddie Mitchell. The exciting junior -- who proved to be a super blue-chip, big-play wideout in the Pac-10 -- clearly stole the show in Indy. Mitchell ran in the mid 4.4s, then came through with a top-drawer effort in the positional workout. I've been saying all along that if Mitchell showed true big-league speed at the combine or during an individual workout, he will elevate significantly from the later portion of Round 1. Folks, that's exactly what happened. Mitchell is now a potential mid-first-rounder if the momentum continues leading to April 21."
now that is funny
GoSkins! 02-28-2007, 07:29 AM I may have missed this, but with Adams, Williams would have another guy that he could be versitle with. He could blitz off the corners and drop Adams into coverage on a TE or RB. Knowing Williams fondness for athleticism, I wouldn't be suprised if he has devised a cunning plan to see if Adams is truely a savage beast. A freak that will fit his system.
I hope he isn't overthinking it.

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 24 -- Gaines Adams, the speedy defensive end considered perhaps the best prospect at his position at the NFL scouting combine, made his first comments on Saturday something Washington Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs would not forget.
"It would be like a dream come true," Adams said of the possibility of playing in Washington. "Coming home, coming from a small school, playing eight-man football, it's a dream."
In todays POST. Sounds like he made a good impression? A little worried he's undersized, needs to put on some weight.
What he realy loves is the check Danny boy is going to sign...

Did that elevate him to Pro Bowl Substitute teacher?

Looks like if the draft was today, we might just get at least one of the guys we NEED. Come on friday, be suprised if we don't see some new names on the rooster.

Did I miss something, I thought Mitchell was drafted in the middle of the first rd?
