redskins5044 02-19-2007, 05:42 PM we need to draft a defensive line with our first pick. and sign some the mid-tier free agents to improve over last year on denfense. because just getting a pass rushing DE in the draft doesnt help us because it will take him aleast half of the year to be comfrotable out there. this team has alot of areas of need and with hardly any draft picks this year we might be looking at a rough couple of years
ncskinsfanec 02-19-2007, 05:43 PM They laid it out just like we have all been saying:
1) Can't buy championships
2) Build more through the draft
3) Run the damn football- Portis/Betts one of the best tandems in the league
4) Must have outside pass rush/force more turnovers- D must improve
5) Pointed out that in Saunders' first year in KC they were 6-10, then their offense exploded
6) Pretty much said we need to draft either Jamaal Anderson or Gaines Adams
7) JC said he is excited to go into OTA's/Training Camp as the unquestioned starter- said it will help his confidence/preparation
It was a decent segment. They had to point out Archuletta of course. But the fact that they repeatedly called Randle El a bust kinda annoyed me. Yes he only had 32 catches, but they didn't even mention his contributions on special teams....
I don't consider Randle El a bust at all. I think he was actually one of the bright spots this past season, he's a jack of all trades, for sure. I agree with those seven things that were pointed out, hopefully Gibbs and the boys will emphasize more chemistry and less free agency this offseason. I also hope the 5th pick will pay immediate dividends, whoever it might be. I think there are some definite bright spots for this team, and if things are handled right a playoff run is definitely not out of the question next season.

Let's not have that mind set. Look, New Orleans only won 3 games in '05 and look what happened to them this past season. You can't predict whether you are going to have a rough year or a great year in the NFL, unless your Indy or New England at the high end, or Arizona or Detroit at the low end. Also, we have a Hall of Fame coach, and two accomplished coordinators to go along with some talented players so I wouldn't be getting too down about things.

I agree. Teams have gone to the playoffs with a lot less coaching and a lot less talent than the Skins have right now. Other than adding a few extra bodies for depth on the O-line, I'm not concerned at all about the offense. Gregg W. just needs to get back to what had us a top D in '04 and '05.
That Guy 02-19-2007, 06:21 PM jason campbell gives worthless interviews. it's just coach/athlete speak and cliches 101. as long as he plays well though...

I noticed that too....almost like he's been told what to say beforehand. Like you said though, as long as he plays well. oh, and ARE is NOT a bust. The man almost Devin Hester-like on punt returns. At ANY point, he could take that sucker to the house. I've seen him throw some good blocks and make some clutch catches and come on, having that Option play and being able to make it work effectively is a VALUABLE weapon against ANY defense. ARE is not a bust.

What would you rather he say? Yo, to that chump D-Mac up in Philly, I'm coming fo yo crown brutha! And P Manning, I aint forget what you did to my man Arch up in yo bootleg dome. You may be MVP, but you a ma------g phony to me.
That would be cool actually
Warpath 02-19-2007, 08:25 PM It's times like these I wish I could control my DVR remotely. A big FU goes out to Comcast and their lame DVR.
Its called a sling box: Sling Media - US Home (http://us.slingmedia.com/page/home)
AlvinWalton'sNeckBrace 02-19-2007, 08:29 PM The only problem I have with getting another DE is that we're still short in the middle then, which means that we'd have to get someone in free agency. We also have other free agency needs though in MLB and CB/Safety depending on Sean Springs...actually...this could end up being a very different defense in 07
sportscurmudgeon 02-19-2007, 08:33 PM Randle-El got a $10M signing bonus. Go back and read that sentence again so you don't miss any of the details.
Now, when you have to resort to the argument that someone overlooked his contributions on special teams to justify that free agency signing, you have just made the point that the Skins overpaid him. And that is the other end of the line on calling him a bust. He's not worth a $10M signing bonus.
$10M signing bonus for a #3 WR who returns punts/kicks and allows you one gadget play a game is not exactly what most NFL playoff teams call "a free agency success story".
