Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)SkinsFanSince91 02-15-2007, 06:29 AM anyone know how old vilma is? He will be 25 on the 16th of April. Still young offiss 02-15-2007, 06:38 AM As much as I like Vilma who would be perfect for Williams system, it is very tough for us to swap picks, I would love to send Portis for Vilma but as Michaels said we are married to him, and as he said you do not give huge contracts to backs because they can be had, but we haven't figured that out yet, just like we couldn't figure out that every back who takes the field in Denver becomes a household name, until he leaves. The best way to go about a possible deal like this is to trade down a couple of times and obtain a couple of 2nd round picks with teams picking higher than the Jets, then maybe make the swap and have the Jets throw in a second day pick, but that would require savey which is something we don't have and every team knows it, so right now it's tough to get favorable deal done because teams will wait us out knowing we will give up the farm in a deal when the shoe should be on the other foot. Every GM in the league knows GM Joe is out to prove he has a keen eye for talent, so much so that he see's things in players that knowbody else see's and is willing to pay an astronomical price for his keen insight on talent when knowbody else is willing. So now we are stuck between a rock and a hard place, do we trade down and address more needs? Or do we use our only valued pick to get a bonified D-lineman which will not be available if we choose to trade down? It would be a nice year to have all our picks or possibly a few extra, we could really load up, but we had to have Lloyd who is not better than the top 3 WR's coming out, we have Portis who is not better than the top back coming out, we had to have Duckett and who know's what his value is, it was zero for us, and yes we had to give up another pick for a LB who barely saw the field but we just had to have him, [although what I saw of him I liked] but we did once again overpay for another player. In closing I have no real expectations that we will do anything productive in the offseason, stupid is as stupid does, and so long as the current staff is in place that's how it will remain in the personel department! That Guy 02-15-2007, 06:41 AM jimmy williams? he didn't exactly shut anyone down. the guy we should have taken was richard marshall (NFL.com - Richard Marshall (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/415972)). he was there for our #53 pick, he had a great year, and he's the guy i wanted for value at that spot well beforehand too. hell, he picked campbell off twice in the one game he played against the skins this year (even though one got overturned due to a BS roughing call, but i can't complain about that). True. I do agree, but Marshall was forced into action with an injury to the secondary and then sub-par play of Ken Lucas made it easier for John Fox. We could have used either of those guys. But Jimmy can play both FS and CB! He did at V Tech and was a beast at both. We will see soon how he and Deangelo begin to shut ish down in ATL! MTK 02-15-2007, 08:06 AM just like we couldn't figure out that every back who takes the field in Denver becomes a household name, until he leaves. I think Portis has proven himself to be more than just a Denver system back. 724Skinsfan 02-15-2007, 08:25 AM I think Portis has proven himself to be more than just a Denver system back. What? You think just because he broke the Redskins single season rushing record that that makes him more than your everyday system back? Obviously anyone could've broken that record, sheesh. gabe1984 02-15-2007, 09:53 AM I'm talking to Trey Wingo about it right now! Not crazy about that deal...if true Trey Wingo, is that his real name? 12thMan 02-15-2007, 10:13 AM I think Portis has proven himself to be more than just a Denver system back. I guess the Portis is a system back thing will never die. MTK 02-15-2007, 10:16 AM I guess the Portis is a system back thing will never die. I think it's dead with a large majority of people. Beemnseven 02-15-2007, 10:22 AM ASSUMING the deal on the table is Betts and the #6 pick for Vilma and the #25 pick this year: I'd take that deal in a flash!! If Portis is healthy - and there's no reason to assume he will not be - Betts is the "back-up". That's the reality whether or not you want to believe it's "the right thing" in the grand scheme of the universe. Vilma would be the starting MLB on this team even with a broken arm; that's how much better he is at MLB (in a 4-3) or at ILB (in a 3-4) than anyone else on the roster. Yes, I said ANYONE else on the roster. And so, in order to acquire a lead-pipe cinch starting MLB, if what I had to give up was a back-up RB and a switch of first round picks, you bet I'd take that deal in a NY minute. And that's why I don't think it's gonna happen that way - - unless [hold your breath, folks] the Redskins sweeten the deal... The problem is losing the #6 pick, hence, losing a potential monster at defensive tackle (assuming they would have picked Alan Branch). Even with Jonathan Vilma, you still need to bolster the middle alongside C. Grifin. I don't care what linebackers you have. If you're getting manhandled at the line of scrimmage, a superstar LB making the tackle 5 yards later is still a huge problem. |
