I guess you're assuming we would re-sign TJ before dealing him, because he's currently set to become a FA.

If the trade was to happen before TJ signed with anyone would be ideal. But I would imagine TJ will be signed before that trade would happen. I dont see us signing TJ or him even willing to sign unless the trade was a 100% done deal.

The team's running back situation is in no position to consider trading anyone. I'm convinced today's NFL requires at least two quality running backs. Sixteen games at 25-30 carries a game is too much for one back, and last season was proof positive of the need. Cartwright is not the guy I would want to step in in the event Portis or Betts goes down, and it's not likely we could trade Duckett because he's about to enter FA. With the backs we have it dosen't make sense to trade one just to go look for a replacement.

No offense...But if you think any trade involving Betts for Vilma is not good you have to be high on some good stuff!!!!! Are you serious, do you not watch football. Betts is great and all and I love him to death...but cmon, Vilma is a freakin beast. Our defense would be immediately better and we wouldnt have to worry about spending money at LB when CB, DT, and DE are greater needs for us to POSSIBLY address WISELY in free agency or the draft. However, the Jets are on crack if they expect us to swap our 6 for their 25, Betts is a starting quality back and Vilma is a proven starter. After the season Betts had, on paper, he aint no LT or S. Alexander, but he is probably better that your average running back. Vilma for Betts, str8 up deal, no picks is what I would like, but if the Jets would throw in some picks that would be great too. But to get our hands on Vilma would be ridiculous, him and Sean probing the field would be dangerous!!!!!

hmmm. Im kind of in the RB and LB are a dime a dozen camp unless they are unreal beasts aka, Tomlinson, Urlacher, Lewis. The best thing about Betts aside from his ability is the fact that his agent is a complete moron and got him locked into a team friendly deal right before he could have seen a huge payday. He really does solidify the RB position at back up money for years to come. You would have to pay a player like Vilma a ton. Moreover, I am starting to think that the biggest problem we have been having with the big contracts is actually the ego/motivation impact they seem to have on the team. Given that we are impervious to salary cap hell, but tend to stink on gameday, I think compiling more players with Betts like skill and salary could be a blueprint for success. We could use more solid if unspectacular players, at a resonable and more importantly ego dampening price. You pay the big bucks ONLY to the team leaders and the superathletes who are the CORE of the team. Overpay for those guys if you have to. The other guys look up to them and respect them, but know their place on the team. If they want too much, they are replaced. Because of the fact that there seems to be no method to our compensation packages, (coaches included), it seems to affect the chain of command of the entire organization. Who is in charge? Who do I HAVE to listen to. Who are THE core players? Who is the REAL head coach. Honestly, come to think of it, I think that the main reason we were all so excited when Joe Gibbs came back was because we imagined that he would bring a very clear sense of leadership and direction to the team. It may well be that his major failing has been in this regard since his return. With JG, GW and Al Saunders, we are dealing with a three headed monster in terms of leadership and direction. That seems to flow down to the players and is compounded by the overspending. The core players should get the money, and the team should scheme around there particular strengths. On the same token, the coaching staff should have a clear outline of who is in charge. It is one thing to say Joe Gibbs is in charge, another thing entirely to know he is. I think that Joe hopefully already has this figured out. It seems that he took control of the team late last season by reaserting his coaching philosophy that we would be a running, smashmouth football team. Unfortunately, it was already too late to save the season. However, I believe that both GW and Saunders got put back in there place and now the team might have a clear understanding of what they are expected to be: a Joe Gibbs football team.
With that in mind, Betts is a more than servicable starter and a very strong role player/backup with a good contract who fits the mold of a power running team. That much we know. Is Vilma one of THE two or three guys you plan to build your entire defense around? A trade like that is only worth it if your answer is yes, because you will have to pay him like a top two or three defender. The same goes for the number six pick. Is the player we draft there going to be one of those two or three guys that makes huge money and is a cornerstone of the franchise? To me, if none of those defenders fits that mold, you either trade down in hopes of landing more solid Betts type players which every good team needs, or you use the pick as leverage to get a guy like Vilma or whoever else you have decided to build around.

We swap picks (our 6th for their 25th) and give up Ladell Betts to get Jonathan Vilma?

Why don't we ask them to kick us in the balls too?

No thanks.

My sentiments exactly! If they want Betts that bad they better have a better offer than that! Vilma and their 1'st round draft pick aught to do it.

Vilma and their first round pick.... Come on now, this isn't Madden 2000.

You don't like the move or the player? Because the player is one of the best LBs in the game.

I like the player. I know he's fast as hell and he's a solid guy. He's a little small but if he's protected I'm sure he can really thrive. But I just don't like the idea of letting Betts go and moving that far down in the draft. We need to get the horses up front before we start with the LB's and the secondary. We need an end and a tackle in the worst way.

I agree here. I would make the move straight up. But what do you think of the Jets current rb's? Cause Leon Washington is the real deal. Cedrick Houston is nice too. So I'm not sure what the Jets are thinking if any of this is true. Why bring in Betts when you already have two real good young runners?

Were losing a little here...Vilma is way more valuable than Betts...but the gap is even wider from the 6th pick down to 25th. They need to kick in another day 1 draft pick and then it's fair.

Anyone who thinks Betts is untradeable does not understand the NFL...RB's are a dime a dozen.

I hate the thought of even thinking this. Betts is to good to give up. what happens when and if portis goes down again? Betts is very valuable here and if it was me i wouldn't even think about letting this guy go. you need help!
