FRPLG 02-09-2007, 01:00 AM So is Phillips the coach or is Jones. Indications are that Norv didn't get the job because he bristled against letting Garret be OC. Garret was hand picked by Jones. I am heartened that this seems like a total step backward here. Just analyze this sentence.
The Cowboys have gone from Bill Parcells to Wade Phillips as the coach of their supposed SB level team.
As much as I HATE BILL PARCELLS he is still 400x the coach Wade Phillips is. This to me potentially relegates the 'Boys back to where they were before Parcells. A terrible team being run into the ground by Jones. Oh yeah they also kicked our ass anyways. We beat them more when they were good than when they sucked. Jeez.
Redskins8588 02-09-2007, 01:44 AM Jon Gruden? Tony Dungy?
There have been a few that have at least made it back to the Big Game as well: Holmgren, Reeves, Parcells...can't remember if Bobby Ross was at Detroit before or after San Diego.
I am not sure of Weeb Eubank, but Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy dont really fit. Once they were head coaches they stayed there. Unlike Shanahan, Belichick and Vermil. They either stepped down to a coodinator position or retired and then came back into the headcoach position. After Tampa Bay Dungy went to be a headcoach for the Colts and the same for Gruden after Oakland he went to be the headcoach for Tampa they didnt go back down to a coordinator or position coach.
Redskins_P 02-09-2007, 01:52 AM Totally off topic, but just heard something I never knew. The Cowboys haven't won a playoff game in 10 years. So at least we have something on them....I guess..
I just hate everything about the Cowboys...

Good point. If anyone had to choose betwen Parcells and Phillips, I believe the unanimous vote would be for Parcells. Doesn't seem anywhere close to a lateral move on the Cowboys part. I do feel that their Defense will be as good or probably even better, though.
Anyone know how successful KC's offense was versus 3-4? I ask that because hopefully, under year 2 of the Saunders Experiment, we'll start looking a little more like the KC team {724Skinsfan winces at the potential onslaught of rebukes from that last part}.

Okay, I guess. How about Don Shula: Colts then Dolphins? Marv Levy: Chiefs then Bills (I know he lost with the Bills but...).
Another interesting take on this:

Still Don Shula never stepped down from being a headcoach only to come back and win with another team. In 1969 Shula was the headcoach for the Baltimore Colts, in 1970 Shula was the headcoach for the Dolphins.
Levy did take sometime away from being a headcoach between KC and Buffalo, and like you said he didnt win anything, 0-4 in the big game.
In Beemnseven's example the coaches he mentioned plus Vermil were headcoaches at one time then stepped down only to come back as a headcoach and then win the whole thing. Shula, Dungy, and Gruden never quit being a headcoach once they got that far. They may have won with a different team than where they started out at, but they moved laterally in the careers, not backwards.
Is Seibel now the official host of the sports bash?
I never thought I'd say it but I miss Erik Kuselias. Freddy Coleman is horrible too.

I understand. I guess my initial interpretation of the post was simply a coach having coached two teams, not the circumstances of how they arrived at their second/new team.
Wasn't Dungy fired? That's roughly the same as an involuntary retirement. Luckily he signed with the Colts about 3 hours after being handed his pink slip.

I am not sure as to what happened with the Bucc's and Dungy. Yeah, there are headcoaches that have switched teams and had sucess. But in general headcoaches that were demoted to a coordinator or position coach and then brought back later as a headcoach usually dont have much sucess.
