"Lance Armstrong is back in the driver's seat Wednesday in the Tour de France. His U.S. Postal team's victory in the time trial gives him the overall leader's yellow jersey." - CBS SPORTSLINE
Not only is Lance Armstrong back in the saddle again but the dewd is knocking the bottom out of Sherl Crow too. I wonder if she lets him wear the yellow shirt? lol
GO LANCE & AMERICA!

What Armstrong has accomplished, is accomplishing, is nothing short of spectacular
SBF, where would you rank him in terms of all-time greatest athletes?

this is pretty incredible since I usually only remember him taking the lead in the mountains in each of the past five years. I don't remember him starting off this strongly. people joke that all he is doing is riding a bike but I think he has to be considered one of the top 2-3 athletes all time and that would be if it was just a normal guy doing it but he's doing this after surviving cancer.

I'd rank Armstrong in the top 5 of all time... t's just un-freaking-believable what Armstrong has accomplished.
I'd pick him along with Michael Jordan, Jesse Owens, Babe Ruth, and Jim Thorpe.
Or Jim Brown. Or Babe Zaharias. Or Ali. Or Dan Jansen. Or Martina. Or Marc Spitz....
There's plenty of room to debate there!

You guys are so right. The guy is an all time great for dominating his sport for so long relentlessly. And if you add his illness he over came that is even more amazing.
He like the GREATS as tamed his body and pushed it to the it's max and maintained it for not just a long time but many Chapionships. wow.
He's in the top 10 All Time for sure.
Good question and maybe another complete thread question.

I was looking at the Tour de France section on espn.com and came across a section that showed the elevation for each stage of the race...The tour tracker link. On the right hand side there is the stage profile...Well, look at stage 13. If anyone can make up time and take a lead like Lance usually does in these mountains he is definitely worthy of a top 5 greatest athlete status. Lance commented that he didn't want to keep the lead so early in the race which I think is good for him...But he also said a while back that the team he has this year is the best yet so that's why the probably jumped him into the lead early.

Babe Ruth would be a mediocre player in today's league.

Lance is amazing. Six in a row is unprecedented in a sport that is this grueling. And after beating cancer.

I somewhat agree. He was a great baseball player who'd probably do pretty well in what is now a hitters league, but he was not anywhere close to what would be considered a great athlete. I think having a beer belly kinda rules u out of that grouping of athletes, lol.

its hard to say that, because so much has changed... more money, more pressure, more exposure... no idea if he would have been able to get in shape and be a great player today, or if he'd even be playing pro ball...
