bigm29 02-02-2007, 12:05 PM As has been said repeatedly by many, we might best be served if we can find a way to trade down and nab two defenders (e.g., Patrick Willis and a DB or DT). We simply have an abundance of holes in our defense at every level. We need not only quality starters, but quality depth that can step in when (not if) starters start to get bitten by the injury bug.
Trading down would be the ideal thing. the problem it is very hard to do.
skinsfan69 02-02-2007, 12:39 PM I went with Okoye (hopefully after falling back to the 11th or 12th pick). He's 19 freaking years old, and is already a monster. I see him growing into the league.
I kind of agree with you. He looks like he has the most potential. However he might not really be able to help us intil 2-3 years.
Monkeydad 02-02-2007, 12:47 PM A lot of people here are high on Branch and I'd also love to see him in Burgandy and Gold...but I saw Posluszny play this year and he's amazing. He's all over the field and always seems to be in the right place to make a play. He reminds me a lot of Urlacher. I'd like to see him on our team as well. We can't get both though. Tough decision for me.
Posluszny is faster than Branch (although smaller) and he's a harder worker and gives it his all on EVERY play. Branch makes a lot of big plays but doesn't try on every down. Also, I don't know much about Branch personally, but Paul P. is a humble guy and a team player...just what Coach Gibbs looks for in players.
I'll be in the minority and pick Posluszny.
I can't stand Penn State either, but this guy is for real.
In reality, we'll pick Branch most likely and it will be a smart pick.
70Chip 02-02-2007, 11:23 PM I say Adams. If you want pressure from the front four you get it from the Ends. We've seen in the past that chasing two marquis tackles (Wilkinson, Stubblefield) is not a magic bullet. Tackles can occupy blockers and force things outside, but they do not put up big sack numbers and they will not be able to help when the opposing team goes after Carter and Holdman in the running game which even the slowest of offensive coordinators will see and be looking to exploit.
We need to spread the talent out a little bit rather than wasting it all in one part of the field. Its a question of spacing.
offiss 02-06-2007, 04:45 AM I would have to see more film on Branch, Anderson, and Adams before I could make a definate decision, one in which would have to wow me in order to take them that high, if not I would start trading down.
As for Posluzsny, I wouldn't give up a first rd pick for him as I wouldn't have done that for Campbell either, first off Williams can mold a great athlete into a good LB which would be much more cost effective and allow us to utilize the higher picks for more needy areas if we trade down, as well he has had a knee injury, I know he played all year without a problem but first round? [Not for us but a possibility for another team with few needs], I wouldn't unless we really do a lot of trading down and winde up with a few late 1st rounders which is very highly unlikely.
I don't think we have the ability to identify talent unless it's really jumping off the charts for the current evaluators, so I believe they will try to play it safe and take Branch.

Its a question of spacing. The DTs coming out of college today are way more athletic than they were 10 years ago. The high picks not only have adequate bulk to clog the middle in the same manner that other guys at their position did awhile back, but also have great athleticism to beat blocks and pressure the QB.
Citizens for 81 02-08-2007, 08:33 PM Branch is a slam dunk at this point if the skins stay at #6.
He'd solidify the middle of the defense, help to free-up the LB's more, and give Andre Carter more opportunities.
I'm surprised more people haven't picked Adams, he's a potential sack monster and most fans tend to salivate over that.
I suppose I have to give credit to my fellow fans of the son's of DC.
Gmanc711 02-09-2007, 12:50 AM I still like trade down, but out of this I voted for Gaines Adams, but would like Jammal Andersen just as so.
I know Alan Branch would prob be the best player to fall to us, and I wouldnt be upset if we drafted him. However, I still like the defensive tackles that we drafted next year, and I think if we do that thing we all wish we would do and "develop", I think Golston for sure and maybe Montgomery could pan out and become good DT's for us, with Griffin there, I think we could be set at that postion.
At DE however, after Carter, I really dont see much to work with there after another year or so. I mean I like Daniels, I love Wynn as the leader and person, but as a player, lets call a spade a spade he's average at best. I still really like Evans, but I dont know if I ever see him being anymore than a good pass rusher for us. So I think Carter is really the only guy we can count on there, so I think adding a defensive end is our best bet. Just my opinion though.
