I always felt that Norv was a very cerebral coach. He has a great offensive scheme and he knows it very well but whenever he didn't have the right players he didn't adjust very well. He didn't seem adaptable, to me.

Let's throw out his last year when he was canned with 3 games left to go. It's still hard to see how anyone could qualify one playoff trip in six years as a success. 5RINGS 01-30-2007, 04:29 PM and welcome back 5rings Thanks. Tell you the truth, I can't stand the Cowboys boards right now. No one is talking about the senior bowl/draft/Super Bowl. it is all coaching all the time. And I think that Coaching is the one area of Professional Football that the Fans know the least about. So much of what they do goes on behind the scenes. And I don't care who you hire as the Defensive Coordinator it just doesn't put any sizzle into the off season for me. Unless that guy is also going to play shutdown Free Safety.... I'm happy to be here where fans are talking about the Players for the most part. 5RINGS 01-30-2007, 04:32 PM 724Skinsfan you have the funniest signature I have seen here in a long while. TheMalcolmConnection 01-30-2007, 04:32 PM What I would worry most about is how he'll handle people like TO especially with the new offensive coordinator they just hired to call the plays. Wasn't Norv typically the offensive mind? AlvinWalton'sNeckBrace 01-30-2007, 04:41 PM I remember thinking he sucked...but I was young. I also remember we always had a good offense and 0 defense. I hated Mike Nolan more than I hated Norv. 724Skinsfan 01-30-2007, 04:42 PM 724Skinsfan you have the funniest signature I have seen here in a long while. Thanks, that reminds me, I think I need to add to it. FRPLG 01-30-2007, 04:43 PM I would say his mediocricy set the stage for our decent over the last decade. Turner is a nice guy. I have met him and spoke with him many times. His son played in the little league I coached. There is no questioning his character. He is also a rather good OC. We consistently had decent to above average offense under him even with less talent. Hell he won games with Gus Frerotte. But even the standup players ran roughshod over him. He is a weak manager and does not command respect. TO might actually eat him alive. If the Tuna couldn't take the TO show then I think hiring Turner will be what can only be called an unmitigated disaster. He has shown TWICE that he cannot adequately do the job. I find myself wondering what the hell Jones is thinking. Maybe he will see the light and not make the hire but I hope he doesn't. :) MTK 01-30-2007, 04:44 PM Complete failure. 7 seasons, 1 playoff appearance, 49-59-1 record, any questions? redsk1 01-30-2007, 04:55 PM In Norv's 7 years if we would have ever had a kicker we would have won 10 more games I bet and things would have turned out a little different for Norv. No question that he wasn't the best manager of people but he could run an offense. We were in major rebuilding mode for a good bit of Norv's tenure here too. Due to bad drafting and FA's, it took awhile to win. Had Dan not blown up the team w/ the whole Jeff George debacle who knows?? So to say he was a complete failure is a bit much, as i would lay some blame around to others. JG's hasn't done much better in his second stint, so far. |
