If we keep Archuletta...Counter-Tre 01-21-2007, 02:02 AM ...what would you do with him? If you were Greg Williams, how would you utilize this guy? GTripp0012 01-21-2007, 02:46 AM Give him a chance to earn his starting job back. If he can't then you cut him loose. SWFlaSkinsFan 01-21-2007, 05:54 AM This goes for every one on Defense, not just Arch ... determine each individual's strengths and weaknesses (football coaching 101!), and then RE-EVALUATE YOUR SCHEMES TO BEST UTILIZE EACH PLAYERS'S STRENGTHS ... Gee, what a novel idea !! Watcha' think, Greg ... maybe this could work ??!! Of course, it helps to have reasonably healthy secondary, but Archuletta's strength is as a physical, "7th or 8th man in the box" kind of "monster back". So why not think "outside the box" Greg, and create a defensive scheme that utilizes Arch's strength ... who knows, you could even come up with some catchy number reference, like your mentor Buddy Ryan did in Chicago with the '46' Defense. You wanted this kid real bad last off-season, and you got him. Now, get to work and create a defense that allows him, and others, to play to his strengths and succeed. You're one of the highest paid Defensive Coaches in the game ... start makin' like EF Hutton, and "earn it" !! #56fanatic 01-21-2007, 09:21 AM I would definately make GW accountable for bring Arch in here. Its his guy. Hopefully he wont give up on him and let him try to earn his spot back. there is a reason he wanted him here. I would definately use him more to his strength. but I would not try and change his defense completely. The guy had a top 10 D the first two years. He just didn't have the horses this season he has had in the past. I believe giving Arch an offseason to learn and another preseason he can be a valuable player back there with "the man" ST. If they become comfortable with each other, I see them as a great tandum. Like I said, I hope they dont give up on him like they did this season. Especially since they told him and promised to use him a certain way, then kindof backed out of it. Big C 01-21-2007, 11:53 AM if we keep archuleta, we need to use him like what williams envisioned him to do when he signed him...blitz, and blitz often. however, this can only work if we have 2 good corners to man mark, so we shall see if he can blitz often The Huddle 01-21-2007, 12:20 PM As noted above, there really isn't any use for Arch unless we're able to lock down on the corners. It would be nice if Carols Rogers revered his direction (well down the road to Bustville considering where he was picked). Doesn't that hurt the position more than anything. No element of surprise from the safety spot at all? Archelletta hasn't done a damn thing since he arrived in DC, and I see nothing that should get him off the bench. Pocket$ $traight 01-21-2007, 12:58 PM Invent the cover 3 (er 2 and a half in Archuletta's case)! Longtimefan 01-21-2007, 02:58 PM How many think that Archuletta's decision to chose his own workout regime during the offseason, as opposed to being at Redskin Park set him back in his preperation for the season? NM Redskin 01-21-2007, 03:07 PM Blitz him!!!! Bring him on running downs to stop the run. |
