I don't think you'll see much until after June 1 right now they are too far over the cap to make any serious moves...once they start cutting down and restructuring salaries, there should be some movement.

If they wait until June 1 to get serious about Dockery, they will be far too late. He gets signed before the unrestricted period begins or he is most likely gone.

The fact that they still haven't gotten Dockery signed is pretty concerning in my opinion. It's still only mid-January, and they have six more weeks until he hits the open market. But every day that the 'Skins don't offer Dockery something in the right neighborhood, that's another day that Dockery will be thinking about and getting comfortable with the concept of free agency.

'Skins need to act on him soon.

Franchise tag? Maybe?

I think Gmanc is about right in saying we're a shade over the expected cap of $109 million. I posted this in another thread, I still think it applies:

I'd look for the following moves:

Cut: John Hall, Christian Fauria, Mike Rumph (save $3.5 million)

Cut: Adam Archuleta as a Post June 1 move, (save $600K in 2007, absorb a $7 million deadcap hit in 2008)

Forced Paycuts: Mark Brunell and Reynaldo Wynn, if they don't accept, cut them to save $4.8 million in FY 2007 between the two of them)

Restructured Contracts (no pay reduction, just restructure): Jon Jansen, Randy Thomas, Shawn Springs, Cornelius Griffin, Marcus Washington, Clinton Portis, Casey Rabach. This could generate $10-15 million in cap space.

Resign: Derrick Dockery to a long term deal

They'll have the flexibility to keep it all together and make another free agency run, if they want to.

For more info on our cap situation, check out this thread:

http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/16455-article-2007-cap.html?highlight=%22nice+breakdown%22If we do all that, the cap situations for 08 and 09 will be downright brutal. $7 million from Arch plus restructuring could put us over the cap in 2008 with about 25 players counting towards the 116 million figure. Too much pressure to win now, I don't like it.

i doubt it. i think tagging him would mean he gets a 1 year deal where we pay him the average of the top 5 guards in the league's salary. knowing the deal hutchinson got in minnesota, im sure the average is quite high and he isnt worth THAT much IMO

We have to avoid putting any more big contract stuff into the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and the franchise tag would allow us to load about 5-6 million of our cap space into this year to have dock on board without having to make a commitment to him for the 2008 season and beyond.

good point but im not sure if we can really handle 5-6 million for next year when we need a lot of upgrades on defense. if we could do that and still get the required defensive upgrades i would be all for ithe could be had at probably a 3 mil per year deal i would estimate if we were to actually sign him. hutchinson is getting 7 mil per year i think

This is incorrect. The Redskins seem to have a lot of money tied up in cap figures for the 2008 season (currently stands at $102 million against the $116 million projected cap), but $60 million of it is tied to base salaries which can easily be renegotiated (and will be as the team has historically done). For example, saying goodbye to Brunell sometime before the 2008 season would clear his $6.5 million salary off the books and create almost enough space to handle Archuleta's $7 million deadcap hit alone. In addition, guys like Jansen, Samuels, R Thomas, Portis, Springs, and Marcus Washington are all scheduled to make $4 million or higher in 2008 base salaries. These can easily be renegotiated this time next year to clear another $10-$20 million in 2008 cap space, if the team needs.

The team has plenty of flexibility to not only cut Archuleta, but also cut Brandon Lloyd this year if they wanted to. Should they try to cut both, then they'd be more restricted in free agency. I don't think they'll do that, but they easily have the cap flexibility to create the space they need in both 2007 and 2008.

According to CPND cap info center (http://www.skinsfans.com/pcinoz/Salaries%20Pages%20Summary.html), the 'skins are $2.891m over the 2007 NFL cap number of $109m. If you click the link, all you capologists have all the info you need including contract amounts and cap hits for 2007 and 2008. May the force be with you.

Good information, and they seem to have it all updated pretty well.

Crazy Canuck keeps this information (http://www.thewarpath.net/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm) here on the Warpath and keeps it in a much more user-friendly format (in my opinion). If anyone is so inclined, you can actually copy Canuck's tables to excel and do some number crunching on your own (which I've done). He last updated on the 19th of December, so the link you provided is more updated. But check back on Canuck's figures here when he updates. The information is easier to handle.

That other site you mentioned is PCinOZ's cap site. I've never loved the format but his info is second to none, especially concerning signing bonus details, etc.

I'm gonna do another update in the next day or two.

Ahh yeah the dude I recently banned due to the fact he was spamming us and trying to get around our 10 post minimum to post new threads. Good info but the guy needs a lesson in forum etiquette.
