Just to add, I'm not trying to say we should just hand the job to Suisham. We can bring in a vet kicker for competition. But Suisham at least deserves a shot to earn the job, he's earned that much.
And that's all players can ask for. If Suisham gets beat out in training camp fair and square, then players will be alright with that. But if the 'Skins just up and let the guy go in lieu of Josh Brown or some other vet without even giving Suisham a shot to compete, the players won't take kindly.

John Hall was in the NFL about three seasons more than he should have been. He was drafted because he had a big leg in college. Where the hell did that go? Leave it to us to bring in a guy who stops using the juice after he gets the fat contract. With all thats been said about Hall he was a dependable kicker when healthy. Not sure what all the injuries where about but last year the team thought they found the problem so thats why he got another chance (which as we all know did not work out). I don't think we can blame Hall for issues that for what I'm concern he had no control. I don't think he injured himself on purpose it was just one of those things that happens. I also do not believe that a kicker has to kick off past the 10 or 5 yard line everytime if they get the hang time allowing the players to get down field. I think thats what we have done is to ask our kicker to hang the ball up in the air instead of trying to nail lower longer kicks which can be an advantage to the receiving team. When we have been kicking off it seems that we have player down field to keep the returner from getting that first step.

The guy kicked the ball over the end zone on every kick in college. Now he can't get it to the ten yard line? He was on juice and quite honestly every player that pulls an Archuletta on us is officially under the microscope in my book. if you run a 4.4 and then you run a 4.7 I say you was on the juice then and now you got your money you not.

Great post.
Players need to feel like their hard work will be appreciated and rewarded. If they bust their ass in practice, do what's asked, and turn in a good season, they deserve a reward. To pass over them for the next high priced free agent is going to result in a pervading sense of injustice throughout the locker room.
It causes players to think: "Well sh*t, Ryan Clark busted his ass and ran through walls for this team, and performed well out there. And then they let him go for this bum, AA? What incentive do I have to run through walls?"
EXACTLY! We can't be the only ones (fans) that see it this way. The coaches really need to get focused on the players.

Look, we still have our 2nd and 4th pick from 2008 right? Trade them to the Colts for AV and call it a day.

Except it's not like the Redskins are the only team that can pay them. They would still run through walls for their next contract. Whether it's the Redskins who will pay them or someone else.

Except they're running through walls for selfish reasons instead of for the good of the team. If a player thinks he's just playing for a contract, he's more liklely to do what he can to rack up the gaudy stats and less likely to do the dirty work that doesn't show up quite as easily, like blocking.
It's hard to get players to buy into playing a team-style game when they're only in it for themselves.

Understood. I mean I realize the argument that the Redskins don't take care of their own (though I think it's a bit exaggerated). How much of a raise die Ryan Clark get for going to the Steelers by the way?

Ironically, we could have passed on giving Lloyd the huge extension and signed Vinatieri last offseason. The Lloyd and Archuleta signings may be millstones on the back of this franchise for a while.

I still think Suisham's the way to go...he's young strong and accurate and he didn't get rattled in a tough situation (the Rams game). All he needed to work on was his kick-offs a little fine tuning should take care of that. Suisham will be a fine NFL kicker.
