GoSkins! 01-11-2007, 09:52 PM If Mr. Spanos believes it's that easy to get to the Superbowl, he's in for a rude awakening. If he fires Marty, he'll be implying that Marty doesn't deserve credit for the team's success (or not as much as the GM). I hope he does it, just so I can see it blow up in his face. What a douchebag.
And then he will be trying to hire a new coach... and tell them that no matter how good he does, it is not to his credit. The credit goes to the GM. Who would want that job?
ncskinsfanec 01-11-2007, 10:58 PM I feel pretty confident that the Chargers will win this weekend, and probably the Super Bowl for that matter. Their clearly the team to beat this season, I don't think Marty will have to worry about his job at all. Like someone posted earlier, I liked Marty when he was here with the Skins and I wish he could've stayed here longer. That was a great move by Synder to dump him for Spurrier because the OBC was just a perfect fit for the NFL.

I'd take it. There's only 32 of 'em in the world.
mike340 01-12-2007, 07:32 AM Personally, I couldn't stand Marty. He got rid of a lot of quality guys who "didn't fit his system." (The ones I remember are Larry Centers (a huge threat out of the backfield), James Thrash (who was the #1 receiver for Philly a couple of times)). (Sellers also left that year, but that's 20/20 hindsight.) Centers went to New Engand. Without him it was much easier for opposing defenses.
And he also dissed #28. With the above, for me that's the end of story. But in addition, it seemed as though if we were behind more than a few points we were doomed since Martyball couldn't come through for us. Am I correct that someone else is now calling the plays in SD?
Still, he shouldn't be fired after a 14-2 record. As far as the front office goes, how would they be this year if they had kept Brees?
skinsfan69 01-12-2007, 10:41 AM We all have had a job where you just didn't get along with your boss for whatever reason. And that's what's going on in SD. You have two people that just don't like each other.
Even Danny Boy and his front-office menagerie wouldn't fire a coach who was 14-2 - - would they?
Danny Boy did manage to fire Schott after he won 8 of his last 11 games in his first year in Washington. Prior to that, I don't believe the Skins had that much success in an 11 game span since Gibbs I (perhaps '96, when they started 7-1, but I believe they fell to 7-4). Considering the first few games of that season (total blow outs by Green Bay, Philly, NY, etc), and the remarkable turn-around that followed, they appeared to be a team on the rise. Why would you fire a coach at that point? The answer in this case was that Marty had personnel control, something The Dan can't live without, and something that will doom the skins until he is no longer the owner (and, unfortunately, he's pretty young).

The most amazing thing about that is we had Tony Banks as our QB! Tony Banks? To turn around a team w/ Tony Banks is nothing more than amazing. I hated to see it. Wasn't that the throwback brown uni's year. I loved those.

LOL I give Danny a by on letting him go because he was still a young owner and thought this Steve S. was the deal as he dominated the college game. He took a risk and lost but I feel he has learned to take a step back and let the coaches do their thing. How many times did we see anything on Snyder this year he was as quite as he's ever been.
SmootSmack 02-01-2007, 01:27 PM You know, for all the grief Marty gets for not winning a Super Bowl it's sort of cool that in the past two Super Bowls three of the head coaches (Cowher, Dungy, Smith) are from the Schott Coaching Tree.
dmek25 02-01-2007, 03:32 PM i wonder how many people around here would welcome marty back, when joe decides to retire? i would
