While I was watching the replay of the Skins Broncos SB tonight I found it interesting that in the second half when the game was over the commentators were giving so many accalades to Bobby Beathard and making him the chief reason behind the succees we had had up until that point, I guess Gibbs thought it was his coaching that made those players, while it becomes more and more evident that it was BB's ability to continualy stock pile talent that made Gibbs.
Let's not be so quick to dismiss Gibbs' impact on that team. For starters, he's the one who lured Doug Williams to the Redskins. But more importantly, it was Joe Gibbs that coached a bunch of no-name guys like QB Ed Rubbert, RB Lionel Vital, and DE Steve Martin (not that one) to a 3-0 record during the "replacement weeks" of that season. While other teams had inner turmoil with players crossing the picket line, Gibbs kept that unit of "scab" players together for three pivotal weeks.
