Bill Cowher Resigns; HOF worthy?

I think coaches need to have more than one SB ring honestly. He'll get consideration but even the great Madden didn't get in until 20 years later with broadcasting help.

George Allen had no Super Bowl wins, only one appearnace, and an attrocious playoff record (2-7 between L.A. and Washington) and he's in. I see no strong arguement against Cowher.

I would defiantly put Cowher into the Hall of Fame. He maid the playoffs 10 times in 15 years and was in 2 Super Bowls winning one. What else do you need to know? I wouldn’t mind taking a hard look at Him as our coach if Gibbs is gone in two years.

Assuming his career is done in the NFL, is he going to make the Hall of Fame?
He absolutely should not go to the HOF. Show me another coach who lost more conference championships on his home field. The Steelers had home field in 5 AFC championships winning only 1. Last seasons run as a sixth seed was amazing, but the Steelers should have played in at least two or three more Super Bowls. By comparison, Gibbs 1.0 won all four home NFC title games, and that during a period when the NFC was dominant.

I do think he is going to get in. It isn't a sure bet to me. Its on the border line but he goes over because people love him an his players love him. There was a time where he was a choker. He couldn't win big games. People, even in pittsburg, were getting fed up with losing big games. He did win the SB so that will be drowned out. Andy reid is another coach that has had a lot of success but if he continues to lose big games will he be in the HOF?

I don't think he is done anyway. I feel he left strongly due to the money. He won't say it but the steelers didn't give him the money he was looking for. He is going to take a year off but he will coach again. For all we know he will be coaching us after gibbs leaves.

He isn't hall of fame worthy just yet, but he's close. I think what Cowher should do is start a NASCAR team and then get back into coaching 11 years from now, with the Steelers again. I mean isn't that the way to do it?

P.S. Seriously though, Gibbs is still the man, I have faith he'll still turn it around again!

I think for sure he'll be in. In this day and age 15 years with one team is absolutley incredible. I was hoping he got fired in 03' and he would have come to us before Gibbs came back. I dont know if its a "first ballot" type of deal, but I'm sure he gets in.

Forget about the Hall of Fame! If We had no Gibbs (of whom I still believe in...) then he should be a lock for a Redskins coaching job! He reminds me of Gibbs I....always getting his team to the playoffs!

But as for the HOF....there is no reason why he shouldn't be a HOF coach.

To steal a phrase from our boy Peter King...Bill Cohwer belongs in the Hall of very good. He has lost more big games then anyone in NFL history this side of Marty ball. How many #1 seeds has he taken into the playoffs and lost with at home? How many AFC title games lost at home? One good run through the playoffs does not make a hall of fame coach. Now we are going to open the hall doors for NFL head coaches with 1 super bowl win? Who's next Brian Billick? Cohwer is a good coach...but he also coached for a team that never fires a coach...a coach with Cohwers playoff track record would have been fired around year 5 or 6 for never getting over the hump in 31 other NFL cities. He was a good coach and a good motivator...but he was not known as a great stratagizer or inovator of anything. Cohwer HOF talk is just flavor of the month nonsense...

It's crazy to see how wildly opinions can swing on this. Perhaps it makes a bit more sense now how someone like Monk can go from being a lock for the Hall in most Redskin fans' minds to being in the 'hall of very good' in others.

I'd love to see whether King voted for John Madden or George Allen. Considering the number of winning teams they produced, neither was very impressive in the postseason (Madden has one title, Allen none). If someone on the anti-Cowher side wants to argue against them as well, that's okay, but no way should they be in if Cowher isn't in.
