Bill Cowher Resigns; HOF worthy?dmek25 01-05-2007, 03:26 PM yes, he gets in. isnt hank stram in? how many super bowls did he win? how about madden? jdlea 01-05-2007, 03:30 PM Ya know? I wouldn't go so far as to call it a lock. Art Monk should have been a lock too, and to date, he hasn't been enshrined. As for Cowher, though, 15 season, 161 wins. That says an awful lot in my opinion. saden1 01-05-2007, 03:43 PM Even Madden was not a lock so I wouldn't say Cowher's is a lock. But then again the HOF voters love him so he is probably a lock. onlydarksets 01-05-2007, 03:45 PM I think coaches need to have more than one SB ring honestly. He'll get consideration but even the great Madden didn't get in until 20 years later with broadcasting help. I was going to say that would limit it to a very small number of coaches, but it's actually a decent sized list: Noll, Landry, Parcells, Gibbs, Lombardi, Johnson, Belicheck, Shula, Walsh, Flores, Siefert, and Shanahan. SmootSmack 01-05-2007, 04:11 PM What could hurt him I suppose if he, like Parcells, keeps coming back. Then the committe would be disinclined to vote him in only because they think he's just going to coach again. With Gibbs, everyone was certain he wasn't coming back so it was easy to vote him in. My gut says Cowher is back coachig in 2008 djnemo65 01-05-2007, 04:15 PM He's a lock. BTW has anyone ever noticed how much the word resigns looks like re-signs? Through me off for a second there. onlydarksets 01-05-2007, 04:16 PM What could hurt him I suppose if he, like Parcells, keeps coming back. My gut says Cowher is back coachig in 2008 It's 5 years for coaches too, right? Parcells never took more than a couple years off, so he's never been eligible, AFAIK TAFKAS. (sorry - couldn't resist the extended acroynm) onlydarksets 01-05-2007, 04:17 PM He's a lock. BTW has anyone ever noticed how much the word resigns looks like re-signs? (sorry - couldn't resist the extended acroynm) no it's not 5 years for coaches irish 01-05-2007, 04:45 PM I think Cowher will get in but I dont think its a lock. The steelers are stingy and unlike the redskins dont overpay for anyone including coaches (which I think is why Cowher is going) and in spite of that stingyness have the winningest record in the NFL over the past 15 years. Stability and not overpaying anyone are two things the redskins could learn from the steelers. |
