Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a tremendous holiday and has a Happy New Year.

Looking back at last week’s game, I thought it was a game that the Redskins played well enough to win and well enough to lose which seems to be the theme for this year. I think that the offense is learning how to finish football games, where the defense hasn’t learned how to do that yet.

I think the problems on defense are fixable within one off-season, but it all depends on whom they bring into the defensive backfield next season. The difference in the defense when there is a “shut down” corner like Springs in the game, as compared to when he’s not in the game is such a vast difference. I think Andre Carter has shown why the Redskins liked him so much, and he should solidify that position for a while. I also don’t think that trading a running back in Portis or Betts is out of the equation so that they can sure up the defense. Staying with the idea of the defense, its a lot of little things like missed tackles that are just adding up and costing the team a lot of games. Going into the draft, I’d look right at a defensive back or a defensive end or trade down for extra picks.

I know Sean Taylor has taken a lot of heat over the past few weeks. Although I think he has slumped a little bit, I think he’s doing way more than he should be, or at least trying too. Taylor needs to stop going for the big hit all of the time and make sure he is square when making tackles. In addition, he feels that he needs to play the run too much and that is causing him to be a liability in coverage right now. I think when Springs is in the game, you can see Taylor playing much better because he is more sure of himself and his teammates.

I still think Jason Campbell is coming along very nicely and he is doing a good job managing the games for the Redskins and I think he’ll have a good game this weekend against the Giants. If the Redskins stick to rushing the football, they should be able to take advantage of a Giants defensive line that has been banged up these last few weeks.

Happy New Year Everyone! Talk to you next week, hard to belive the season is over already.

Tony
