celts32 12-31-2006, 01:52 AM This would free up the Texans to choose a first-round defensive back, defensive end, or even quarterback.
F that...any trade involvng Portis had better start with that 1st round pick!
Longtimefan 12-31-2006, 02:07 AM I am hoping that he is not traded either but ,like I said earlier, I have seen stranger things happen...hell...The Colts traded Marshall Faulk when he was a core player and it worked out good for the Colts and Faulk AND the Rams did not have to trade their whole team and waterboys to get Faulk...LB's contract extension has nothing to do with Portis
But, Marshall Faulk was not coming off major surgery when the Colts traded him to the Rams. There's no guarantee Portis will even be ready to start the season. It's not likely a team would be willing to make any type huge commitment to a player with question marks.
Crat92 12-31-2006, 02:12 AM If Portis is traded, this team will be taking a major step in the wrong direction!

You are probably right and I have never said that I thought that they would trade Portis but like I said earlier you can never say never and if that article is factual there is at least one team that is willing
Pocket$ $traight 12-31-2006, 02:24 AM They should try to trade Betts. He probably has more value right now and his contract hit would be bearable.
Trust me, if they dump AA Portis isn't going anywhere next year.
onlydarksets 12-31-2006, 04:46 AM i was just reading fox sports web page, and it says that the Texans are going to pursue postis in the off season. coach kubiak basically runs the same offense that portis had in Denver. i do not want portis traded, but just for discussion, if the skins would go thru with it, what do the texans have that the skins could possibly want?
People seem to be reading right past this part and skipping to "Portis will never be traded."
Just for discussion, it would have to be a starter plus a first round pick. You can't talk about a franchise player for less than that. That said, "Portis will never be traded."
budw38 12-31-2006, 07:34 AM I'd take D,Mico Ryan (sp) and a first rounder for CP. Very good , I thought the same . Maybe have them throw in a back up rb , or a mid rd draft pick . I do not want to lose Betts or Portis , but we need more than a few players to make a team for the long haul .
Schneed10 12-31-2006, 09:10 AM Were you even born when Gibbs was coaching the first time to even talk about what Gibbs tendencies are?
Marshal Faulk was not traded at the point of his career when...(whatever you were talking about)... he was at the height of his career...Were you even born then?
As far as the article is concerned I have not even read it...I just know better than to say that anyone on a 5-11 team is untradable
How do you know who or who not is going to get traded?
Ugh, yes do the math, genius. I was born in 1979, and was well old enough to follow the team in the 1987 and 1991 Super Bowl seasons, and all seasons in between.
Yes, Faulk was at the height of his career, but your lack of knowledge regarding the salary cap is very apparent here. Faulk was not under a huge contract at the time, he was under the original contract which he signed after being drafted. He was also nearing the end of that contract, meaning almost all of his signing bonus which he received as a rookie had been allocated and shifted off the books at that point. The Colts didn't have to absorb much of a cap hit.
On the contrary, Portis is still in the earlier stages of his new $50 million contract. For each of the years he has remaining on his contract, the Redskins would have to absorb that proportion of his signing bonus as a cap hit in 2007. That makes trading him cost-prohibitive. That's just a fact my friend.
As far as Gibbs' tendencies, he tends to trade draft picks away for veteran players, not the other way around. He also tends to like veteran players, so while Demeco Ryans is a pretty good young player; he's still a first year guy. The Texans just don't have players or picks that Gibbs would be interested in.
I hope you stick around on this board, RiggoRaider. I'd love to get your reaction when Gibbs laughs at the reporter who suggests that the Redskins and Texans might consider a Portis deal.

This is the very definition of "retarded thread" to me. I'm not interested in discussing anything as fantastically ridiculous as this. I will be glad to explain why this would never happen, but discussing what Portis would be worth in a trade is a waste of time.
I'd much rather discuss the numerous things wrong with our defense. It's not like we should be hard up for discussion around here, there's plenty of REALISTIC things to discuss.
SantanaMan 12-31-2006, 09:25 AM Trading Portis would be the single most unthinkable thing the Redskins could do to me as a fan, I'm a huge CP fan and would hate to see him in another teams jersey.
Keeping both Portis and Betts should be the plan - giving us one of (if the THE) best 1-2 punches in the league (unless Michael Turner stays with the Chargers), also resigning Dock and keeping the O-line inatct for another season.
