ESPN: Archuleta: 'I don't like getting lied to'

i do vagely(sp) remember springs commenting on lavar. not sure if it was during the season or after lavar was gone. if it was during the season then springs was going against the grain, most nfl players don't talk publicly about their teammates faults.

Right, which is why I suggested we might see an anonymous retort to Arch's complaints if they were totally false.


i think all of us are making to much out of this.

I think there are lots of cases where players come to a team and don't work out for one reason or another. But rarely do you see those players benched the way Arch was, unless it's a "locker room cancer" type of issue, and rarely does it seem to get as ugly as it does around here.

I don't think I'm alone in being concerned with the reputation (deserved or not) our front office is starting to get with respect to how we treat players. I don't mind the label that we try to buy all the best players; the fact that Snyder opens his wallet freely is a great thing IMO. But how we treat the guys we spend so lavishly on, when they don't exceed our wildest expectations, should be of concern.

So here's another question. Why is Lloyd still playing and Archuleta not? I'm bracing for the inevitable "have you seen the blocks Brandon throws! He plays his guts out on every down" comments, but the fact is, relative to his contract, I do not think he has played any better than Arch, and by all accounts he is not particularly well-liked or respected in the locker room, whereas we have heard nothing to that effect about Arch.

In case it's not obvious, I think GGrilliamss has horrible personal skills, and is allowing his ego to destroy his defensive unit.

lloyed has also been benched in favor of randel L but thats a different subject.
anyways, i dont know the answers any more than you do. i've given my opinion and you've given yours. only AA and the coaches know the real reason behind this.

Really? How is NOT the coaches responsibility? They are COACHES, they need to (gasp) COACH! It is 100% the responsibility to tell Arch exactly what he is doing wrong, if not, then they are not coaches, they are spectators.

Exactly. The real issue isn't whether AA can cover, or does he practice well, or who hurt his feelings - forget all that crap, I could care less!

My concern is how we handle players once we consider them expendable.

Archuleta maintains the coaches aren't talking to him, and have never explained to him why he's not playing. They don't know what to say to him. There's no way they can bring him in and chastise him for not being able to do something they knew from the beginning he could not do. There is no way anyone will ever make me believe GW didn't know beforehand the weakness in AA's game was his coverage skills. Therefore you cannot say to him I'm sitting you down because you can't cover, because that wouldn't make sense. They made a mistake with Arch, and as hard as it may be for them to admit it, that's the bottom line. Rather than admit they made a mistake with him, they chose to say nothing, and it's that nothing that's eating away at him.

Let me put it this way:

We would need him to play coverage right now with SS out. Since he cant cover anybody, he is not seeing the field. The defense is bad enough with him on the bench. Why would we want to play a guy we know cant play??? Common sense should tell him that.

Precisely -- I mean, wouldn't we be aghast if, all of the sudden, Snyder decided he had had enough of GGrilliamss and relieved him of his coaching responsibilities but put him in charge of punters or something, and just refused to talk to him about it for the better part of a work year?

On JLC's WashPost blog, there was a great comment about how when Wellington Mara died, all the players were commenting on how professionally and respectfully he always treated them. Maybe Snyder doesn't care, but right now his legacy is pretty horrible-looking. Wins, losses, and ticket prices are one issue, but how you treat professionals in your organization are another thing entirely.

How do coaches lie to you if they do not talk with you?? Maybe they have just not told him something he wants to hear. Could it be they work with him in practice on his weaknessess without belittling him and telling him he sucks and your cover skills blow worst than what we thought, we made a evaluating mistake you are a terd in water. I also remember Lavar saying the coaches don't talk with him, and Gibbs comment that I have talked with him probably more than I have any other player in his coaching career. Whether it is arrogance or not I think players are really used to being coddled and cannot handle the hard facts that the yare not as good or underperforming. He in many people minds and talent evaluators overrated, I know he read those things why is it so difficult for him to see. I do think it is more to it though than playing talent, he has crossed somebody and I would not doubt that Arch does not know what it is but wants to play I am the victim, a hardworker and just want to improve on my weaknesses, but nobody will tell me what to work on. BOOOHOOOHOOO!!!!
