Beemnseven 12-27-2006, 10:20 PM If we had Campbell from day 1, I truely feel we'd be in the playoffs right now. Not by much mind you, since our D sucked all year, partly due to flaws, and a lot to do with injuries, but we'd have 7 or 8 wins right now.
I don't know that Campbell would have been the difference maker, but I will say this -- the defense played well enough in losses to Minnesota (lost 19-16), at New York (lost 19-3) and the second Philly game (lost 21-19).
By winning those three, we're 8-7 and right in the thick of the playoff hunt. Even the 25-22 loss to Tennessee was somewhat manageable -- remember the veteran savvy of Mark Brunell throwing a pick into quadruple coverage on Santana Moss?
What hurt us in those games was the offense -- they were catatonic against the Vikings, and played like it was still preseason; woeful and inept in NY; while Campbell's inexperience led to 14 easy points for the Eagles.
There's lots of 'woulda, coulda, shoulda' this year. But when your defense holds the opponent to around 19 or 20 points, and your offense can't pick it up a knotch, you don't deserve to participate in the postseason.

I also recall the defense getting shredded by Travis Henry for a buck 80.
The Huddle 12-28-2006, 01:52 AM That is good news, and I will be excited to watch the game. Makes me sad though that the Skins couldn't find a way to get close to the playoffs in a year in which playoff spots are being given away.
No joke. Teams are backing in left and right in the NFC. The AFC has 4-5 teams as good or better than the Bears.

We'd likely have at least 1 more win though, probably 2, although we could have left Brunell in and got the same effect, albietit costing JC any expierence.
This is a prime example of how making a QB change to a younger QB can cost a team wins, but it was necessary to get us in position to win next season.

Really?!?! Only two come to mind that are as good as or better, maybe three. Buts thats it. The other AFC teams offense would crumble when facing the Bears D. JMO...
dmek25 12-28-2006, 07:49 AM If the Giants get in, whether it be by beating the skins or everyone else losing, then the NFL should cancel this years play-offs. Rule the season as invalid the same as experimental test results are sometimes deemed invalid.
there are alot of times the skins piss me off. but if they were in the same situation as the giants are right now, i would want the skins in the playoffs. i am the type that the coaching staff could always fix what is ailing the skins. maybe giants fans dont feel the same love for their coaching staff?

Again, being able to score more than 25 against the Titans at home should have been manageable.
Also notice that I didn't include that game as one of the three we could have won, putting us in a possible 8-7 record. It's just an example of a game where the offense should have picked it up a notch.

Of course the offense could have picked it up in that game, but you can also draw the conclusion that had the defense not been on the field the entire game, or if they could have forced a turnover or two, the offense would have had more opportunities. The Titans' offense held a huge advantage in time of possession holding the ball for over 35 minutes. Also, the fact they were facing a rookie QB makes it even worse.
It goes both ways, the chicken or the egg argument I guess.
mheisig 12-28-2006, 11:19 AM This is perfect! I know, I know, our season is shot, but at least we get a chance to take down the VAgiants.
Is it bad that it took me a couple of minutes to get that?
BravesOnthePath 12-30-2006, 06:06 PM Hey this is gonna be my first time going to see the redskins at FedEx and it would make my freakin' day if we stomped the hell out of the Giants. Can't wait. Hope to see yall at the game.
