Sheriff Gonna Getcha 12-25-2006, 09:09 PM Taylor didn't give up 3 TD's the same way that Betts' fumble didn't give the game to the Rams. But his failure to make a play and prevent the TD's DID contribute to us losing the game in the same way that Ladell's fumble did (by your own logic).
Sounds like pretty solid logic to me. Had the defense been able to stop the Rams, our offense's 31 points would have won us the game. Had Betts held onto the ball we almost certainly have been able to win the game and run out the clock. Taylor and the defense contributed, in a big way, to our loss. But, so too did Betts' fumble deep in Rams' territory in the late 4th quarter.
Unlike the defense, Betts had a solid game up until the end of the game. However, you can't simply ignore his fumble at a very, very crucial point in the game.
EternalEnigma21 12-26-2006, 10:39 AM The fumble sucked. It didn't lose us the game, but he did blow a chance to win it. The D, however, was playing like crazy in the beginning. Losing Springs really hurt us. I know we gave up a lot of yards and points, but we were at least getting a little bit of pass rush on, which was nice to see.
Not having 2 of your best players on D at 2 different levels will really hurt you. I like seeng McIntosh in there, but definately not at the expense of Marcus Washington, our best LB by far... and Springs was having a great game until he got hurt...
Our Secondary is weak beyond springs. Sean Taylor is basically the only guy left out there. I've pretty much given up on Carlos Rogers, and I wouldn't even keep kenny wright on the f'ing practice squad. Ade Jimoh is a Special Teamer, but he played his ass off in there... they were just too much for us to stop.
They do have a hell of an offense when they're clicking, and our D is hurt and having a really bad year.
Portis is a superstar runningback for a reason.. betts never will be for the same reason... although he's been an amazing backup, I'll give him that...
firstdown 12-26-2006, 11:36 AM Three things that I saw which cost use the win.1) Betts fumble did cost us the game in the long run but it was not the only reason we lost and it should not all be hung on him. 2) After our TD drive in the beging of the 3rd Qtr. our O struggled to stay on the field and gave the ball back after quick series. 3) Our D was winded in the second half and never had a break in the 2nd half and by the end of the game almost gave 600 yards. My point is that we could blame just about any unit for the loss not just one player who Yes, ultimately made the final mistake that cost us the win.

I don't see how you can say that Betts will never be a superstar RB he has only had one chance in his carrier and so far has ran for over a 100 yards in each of his games. So until his numbers drop he is currently playing like a superstar so far.

Like Gibbs says, "Were all in it together."

I'm Ms. Freakin Cleo... thats how.
budw38 12-26-2006, 07:52 PM Once again. Dgack you can argue how many yards were put up and everything else. It was a good strip blah blah blah.
Here is the bottom line. The team was in a position to win the game. Betts had the ball and knows that someone is going to try and strip the ball (that is no secret). He didn't make the play.
I AM TIRED OF EXCUSES. When you have a chance to seal the game, do it. It is that simple. Make the play.
Our team has been deficient in making plays this year that is why they are 5-10.
I don't care if the D gave up 6000 yards. If there are 2:00 left in the game and you have just broken into the secondary, hold onto the ball.
By the way, Taylor was embarrassed yesterday, that is fine. He also won three games for us this year. Without him, we are 2-13 and probably the most disappointing team of all time. Oh , is that how it works ? taylor blows coverages all day < all year > , but he won us some games so its ok ? Guess he can spit on players , chase people around with guns , refuse to call his head coach , during HIS offseason ,,, but its ok ? When Portis lose three fumbles in NY , its not his fault when Moss head buts another player , its ok too ? Amazing how everyone is tired of excuses , except for the guys from the U ?? Maybe betts caused the fight between the U and FIA this year . Maybe Betts missed all those tackles and blew all those coverages ?
Hail2em 12-26-2006, 08:29 PM whoever started this thread needs to be examined...there is no hesitation in betts whatsoever. he knows where he is going when he gets the ball. Portis is good now dont get me wrong but he hesitates to much. i think Betts is the man for the job. I say trade portis for a draft pick.
onlydarksets 12-26-2006, 09:08 PM You want to dump CP because he "hesitates too much"? I'm not even sure how you can substantiate an argument like that, so I'll just go with my gut and say, no, he doesn't hesitate too much.
He rushed for over 1500 yards in 3 of his first 4 seasons. He finds the end zone. He's friggin fast. He doesn't fumble. He is the best blocking back in the league. He is unselfish. He is a consummate team player. He's hands down the best back on the team.
We are in a great position with CP taking 15-20 carries and Betts getting 10-15 a game as the default strategy. Betts is proving to be a very good runner, so I'm sure, if he gets the hot hand in a particular game, he'll see more carries.
riggoraider 12-26-2006, 11:09 PM Man, Skins fans turn on you on a dime. I don't get this whole Betts vs Portis issue. We have two capable backs and the one that gives us the best chance to win will be on the field. Portis is a proven commodity but great players emerge when players ahead of them gets injured. Betts has stepped it up big time and if he gets the nod over Portis I'll be comfortable with that but he will have to live up to what we have come to expect from Portis. Either way just f'ing win baby.
I have been on other forums and this has to be the best Portis vs. Betts quote that I have read...Portis is a very good back and we know that he can carry the load but so is Betts and we know that Gibbs will field the correct player in the best situation for either back.
To make up things like Betts has a fumble problem just because he fumbled and you happen to not like people saying that Portis may need to be traded is ludicrous. Every back fumbles if given enough carries but I think that some people were chomping at the bits to see this happen. To actually be wanting something bad to happen to a Redskin player should make you re-think rather you are a Redskin fan or just a fan that happens to like a player that is on the Redskins team. A real fan would be rooting for each and every player on the team.
