I would totally keep Vinny out of this. Don't the coaches make all the personnel decisions? Everyone is always, "GM! WE NEED A GM!!!!!!!" So we almost struck out in our FA acquisitions this year, so what? Overall, Gibbs and staff have made overwhelmingly positive decisions with regard to the draft and free agency. Sure we let Pierce and Smoot go, but would a GM have prevented that from happening? I think our talent evaluation is fine save for the Archuleta signing.
How good is our current scout system?

Pretty good in my opinion. While I do think we tend to focus more than we should on players in FA, our drafting hasn't not been bad by any means.

I figured it out:
Malcolm = Vinny C

Can you really argue with that though? TAFKAS mentioned a while ago and I totally agree that if we signed a GM even as a figure-head, people would be totally satisfied.

To his credit, it could be said that they didn't need a QB or RB, but then the season starts, Carr tanks and Davis gets hurt. Who woulda' seen that coming?

Can't deny that either.......hindsight

Sure we've made some good decisions but we've made some real boneheaded FO decisions over the last couple years. These decisions make nfl scouts around the league laugh at our FO. More importantly, these decisions have deteriorated our team IMO. Just look at a couple examples:
TJ Duckett and losing a 3rd rounder
Giving up 2 draft choices for LLoyd
AA signing for huge $ when scouts league wide knew he could cover
Thinking Brunell is a starter in this league for the last 3 years

There's a couple more-just can't think of them right now.

Didn't Casserly draft Heath Shuler?

If I recall right, Casserly wanted Shuler and Galloway. Norv wanted Dilfer and Westbrook. So they basically compromised

You have to give Casserly some props for making that happen though.

How many SuperBowl trophies did we collect with all those extra draft picks anyway?

Don't forget the Skins may have to swap 1st rounders with Denver for the Duckett deal if Denver keeps losing and we keep winning. If not the Redskins will also give up a 4th rounder to Denver for the Duckett transaction.
Another to add to the list - trading a 3rd rounder for Brunnell when he was going to be cut shortly thereafter.
How about giving up a 6th rounder for James Thrash - don't laugh but a guy by the name of Colston on the Saints was drafted in the 6th round and he could have been our answer instead spending the picks on of Llyod.
Outside of the draft pick issue, the bonuses the Redskins are giving out to players has been quite high to say the least. I saw AA laughing all the way to the bank - even if we cut him after this year he is still guranteed to pull in $10 million - pretty good for being captain of the punt team if you ask me.

I will say the Betts contract was pleasantly surprising. Lets see if they go back to their old ways and break the bank for Dockery.
