I agree that the OL is the main reason the running game is clicking so well now. Some of the holes lately have been gigantic.

Plus I think another reason for the success of the running game is Saunders and the offense are finally getting on the same page as far as him calling what they do well.

I'd still like to see him start scoring a bit more. Portis averaged a TD every 18 touches and 75 yards, Betts is averaging one every 98 & 465, respectively.

anybody think that portis will request to be traded after the way betts has played since he's been out?i can't see too many changes next year at rb,i still see portis, betts, dockett, sellers, and rock back.
anybody think the skins may shop portis to somebody like jacksonville, atlanta,or maybe even the dolphins?

I don't think that Portis will ask to be traded, however I think that Betts has proved more productive as a runner than Portis, I do think Portis is a better blocker in the backfield. I would not be surprised next year if Betts takes the #1 spot however, If nothing else I think he has earned a shot at the #1 spot personally.

Why didn't Gibbs stress this to AL from day 1? We would have beaten alot more teams running the ball..........

It's almost comical at this point.

Not a chance!

You don't replace an annual 1500-yard rusher because he had to sit out from a shoulder surgery.

You're another one who is forgetting how good Portis is and how much energy and talent he brings to the field...plus he's a better blocker AND passer.

Seriously, it makes me shake my head and wonder why this is even being discussed. Crazy....

i'd say little chance. RBs are always the first to get injured. we have 2 capable starters in the backfield. this will help the team win more games and keep these guys healthier longer if they're splitting their carries.

No.

Portis #1 (maybe slightly reduced and not on 3rd down to keep him healthier).
Betts #2
Duckett will probably be gone and Rock will be #3.

Yes, aside from LT...Betts is the best RB in the NFL over the last month, no one can stop him...but a lot of credit goes to the O-Line and we're also forgetting HOW GOOD PORTIS is. It'll be a killer 1-2 punch when CP is healthy and this season has proven that every team NEEDS at least 2 good RBs to compete. Where would we be WITHOUT Betts now?

Other teams are seeing it too...the Broncos, Jets, Titans, Dolphins, Lions, Vikings, Jaguars, Panthers, Seahawks, Packers, Bears, Eagles, Falcons, Texans, Raiders, Giants...all of these teams and more have needed capable backups this year because of injuries to their starting RBs.

We'd be stupid to get rid of either of them.

Right on. I hope we do everything in our power to keep BOTH Portis and Betts.

Portis is generally the better back, better receiver and better blocker. Betts is proving himself as a solid and capable backup. Plenty of teams in this league are running a two-back offense with a great deal of success: Pittsburgh had Bettis-Parker, San Diego has LT-Turner, Kansas City had Priest Holmes-Larry Johnson, Giants have Barber-Jacobs, Dallas has Barber-Jones, New Orleans has McCallister-Bush.

I say count our blessings that it looks like we'll have two very talented RBs rather than trying to shop one of them.
