dgack 12-12-2006, 01:41 PM OK. Is this better? Your thread is awful. How's that?
I just can't seem to rip the Cowboys these days when we are 4-9 and staring 4-12 right in the face. It just serves no point. I respect how they have built their team. Despite the bad game Sun. night they have done a real nice job building a team of very good young players. Many of them were drafted. That is what pisses me off most. That Dallas drafted good young players and we get over priced, over paid free agents.
You're high. Most of Dallas' drafted young talent is on defense, where we aren't spending that much money on "over paid free agents".
What part of T-O, Sherry Glenn, and Deadslow sound like good young drafted players to you? Okay, so they drafted Julius Jones. Fine, we drafted Ladell Betts, and guess what, they're having nearly statistically identical years despite Ladell having 7 fewer starts. Oh, and Ladell's averaging half a yard more per carry. Next.
Oh right, Jason Witten. Good call. 600 yards and a TD this year. If only we had a guy who could do that!! Chris Cooley only has 528 yards on the season. Oh wait, but 5 TD's. Next.
Romo? Fine, sure, but if Bledsoe hadn't been so awful he would never have seen the light of day, and realistically we have no idea whether he's going to be decent or suck. Started off hot, sucks lately. *Shrug*. By the way, Tony Romo's passer rating in December: 58.4. Jason Campbell's passer rating in December: 54.6.
We've got more drafted young talent (Dock, Jansen, and Samuels) on the O-Line than they do (Gurode and Flozell Adams were both drafted, but Adams is like 140 years old), and assuming some of our recent projects like McIntosh and Golston step up and start next year, we could have 5 drafted Redskins on the starting D (Marshall, Golston, McIntosh, Taylor, and Rogers). The Cowboys have 6 (Davis, Williams, James, Ware, Spears, and Canty)
So, yeah. We really suck at drafting and the Cowboys are awesome.

No. I'm not high. You just said it. They drafted on defense. Your forgetting T. Neuman. Sorry but I would take those 7 over our 5. That's 7 drafted players that are starting. Plus they are all young and only going to get better. Marshall is not a NFL caliber starting MLB at 225. What FB fears hitting a small undersized MLB? Goldston and Rocky are projects so far. And I would say Rogers has been a bust. Taylor is only good on intimidating and hitting people. Very poor in coverage. They are simply better players. Dallas stops the run better and rushes the passer MUCH better. And that is how you win in the NFL. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Yeah, I did forget Newman, fair enough. However, I do think you're mischaracterizing the situation simply because we're having an abnormally bad defensive year. Considering our defense was ranked 9th last season and we actually drafted young guys in addition to signing guys who should have been impact players now, there's no precedent that we were just going to suck this season.
If you want to say that recently, Dallas has gotten better value out of their draft picks than we have, fine. But it's pretty lame to suggest that they are the model of youth and building through the draft, and we're the opposite. That's just not true.
Man, what a difference a year makes. People are drinking the Kool-Aid one year and trying to sue people for making them drink it the next.

I'm not drinking any Kool Aid. I just think you build through the draft and add FA'a here and there. We do the opposite. The depth should be 2nd 3rd and 4th round draft picks that have been on your roster for a year or two or three and know the system. Our depth is going to be gone ( and is gone) because of giving up draft picks for Brunell ( 3rd rounder), Duckett (3rd rounder), LLoyd ( 3rd and 4th rounder), Campbell( extra 1st rounder), Portis (2nd rounder) and Rocky M(extra 2nd rounder). This is why when we have injuries we can't overcome them. We have to put in guys like Fox and Rumph. Goldston has played OK for a rookie but he got trampled against TB and Tenn. Last year we had to put in 50 year old Ray Brown becasue there was no depth along the offensive line. So this is why saving the draft picks is so important.

Your awful for giving respect to the Cowboys. Got a question for you Bud, how many playoffs games has Dallas won since 1999, and how many have the Skins won since then? Maybe that will put your crazy logic in perspective. Yeah, Dallas is doing a great job of building their team, getting Terrell Owens was just a magical pickup!! He's already whinning and allegedly overdosed on painkillers since he's been there.
ncskinsfanec 12-12-2006, 10:33 PM Let me add one more thing, you'll probably do a 360 on your logic once the Skins start to win again. The draft and how we built this team has had little to do with the devastating injuries (e.g. Portis, Springs earlier in the season, Prioleau), tough schedule (Colts after they had a bye week, Eagles after they had a bye, for example), and the new offensive system that will take probably take at least a season in a half to get used to. I'm actually seeing some positive things with this team now, and I think what is being built now will benefit us greatly next season. I can tell you some really good players we've built through the draft, let's see, Chris Samuels, Chris Cooley, Jon Jansen, and Derrick Dockery do those names ring a bell to you.

Okay then
SmootSmack 12-12-2006, 10:45 PM Wow. Someone's taking things a bit too personal here. Let's be sure not to get too get worked up here. Keep things civil
ncskinsfanec 12-12-2006, 10:47 PM No hard feeling SkinsFan 69, just having a little back and forth with you is all. I'm sure you bleed the burgandy and gold just as much as I do. Next season will look back on this one and laugh. Mark my words on that. What makes sports so fun is that you can argue over something that has nothing to do with everyday life, sports is just such a great escape. Now I have to get back to business. Everyone have a good night!!

If anyone cares I actually DISLIKE the Cowgirls. Trust me. I just think they have done a really good job with some of their draft picks.
