Flashback to '91MTK 06-26-2004, 12:28 AM I stumbled across this article and thought it was worth sharing. Check it out http://espn.go.com/nfl/s/epstein/91redskins.html JWsleep 06-26-2004, 01:46 AM Nice. That was such a great team. Could have gone undefeated, almost did. I also really liked Petibone's D that year. He really kept teams off balance, and could turn on the blitz and just dominate at crucial moments. And what a surprise, they had excellent special teams. And one of the best o-lines ever. Time to be great again! skinsfanthru&thru 06-26-2004, 02:30 AM anyone who watched espn top 25 teams over the past 25 years special kinda PO'd that the 91' skins weren't on the list but 3 49er teams were as well as there being 2 women's college teams in the top 10?!?! they got that list all messed up cuz as far as talented teams who went all the way goes, not only should the 91 skins been on the list but the dream team should have been higher than in the 20's and the 79 steelers have to be ranked higher than two women's college basketball teams. I may have had the UConn womens BB team on the list somewhere but not at #4 ahead of said teams, the 85 bears, the 87 lakers, and even begrudgingly the 2001 Miami Hurricane's. That Guy 06-26-2004, 04:41 AM yeah, i kept waiting for a skins team to show up, saw all those 49er's teams and women's basketball... then they got to #1 and announced the yankees... "uhh... you missed something..." (not saying they should have been #1, but not to make the list at all?? jeez.) Shane 06-26-2004, 09:05 AM One of our two losses was the last game of the year in Philadelphia - everything had been clinched and the game was meaningless to us. Riggo44 06-28-2004, 05:03 PM AAHHHH that was such a great year to be a Skins fan!! :httr: I hope Gibbs can be the only coach 2 win 4 Super Bowls with 4 diffrent QB's!! :dallas: joecrisp 06-28-2004, 06:53 PM Yep. That '91 season was pure Redskins fan nirvana-- except for that damn week 13 loss to the damn Cowboys-- which, as any Redskins fan from the Fredericksburg area knows, is directly attributable to Mark Rypien's failure to make his weekly trip down to Fredericksburg for his lucky dose of Carl's Frozen Custard! Every off-day of that fabled season-- except for the one prior to that week 13 matchup with the Cowgirls-- Ryp had filmed a weekly Redskins show in Fredericksburg, followed by a trip over to Carl's for some of their heavenly frozen custard. I'll never understand why Ryp decided to forego his lucky cone that week (of all weeks!!!), but needless to say, I'm convinced that had he stuck to his weekly routine, the '91 Skins could very well have challenged the '72 Dolphins for football perfection and immortality! If the Skins had been undefeated heading into that regular season finale against Philly, I'm sure Coach Gibbs and the players would have at least made an effort to win that game. offiss 06-28-2004, 08:21 PM anyone who watched espn top 25 teams over the past 25 years special kinda PO'd that the 91' skins weren't on the list but 3 49er teams were as well as there being 2 women's college teams in the top 10?!?! they got that list all messed up cuz as far as talented teams who went all the way goes, not only should the 91 skins been on the list but the dream team should have been higher than in the 20's and the 79 steelers have to be ranked higher than two women's college basketball teams. I may have had the UConn womens BB team on the list somewhere but not at #4 ahead of said teams, the 85 bears, the 87 lakers, and even begrudgingly the 2001 Miami Hurricane's. Yea it was fairly ridiculous, I had to wonder who's in charge of that stuff, from the standpoint of how they evaluated the team's, I can't see how any woman's team could be included, that's a joke, it wasen't like they had to take a team from every sport, and then not only don't they make the 1980 olympic hockey team the greatest team ever, they don't even include them in the top 25, what a travashamochery! What team accoplished more against greater odd's, than that team? mizzo skins man 06-28-2004, 10:45 PM I remeber that season like it was yesterday. I was a sophomore in high school, in Eastern Iowa. I was probably the only skins fan in the whole school, and I had big time bragging rights. When we were 11-0 I thought we had it all wrapped up. Then it happened! What really sucks is that the two losses they had were for a combined total of 5 points. Greatest Team Ever! exit0 06-28-2004, 11:03 PM I had the "luck" to be at that Dallas game which was the first loss that year. Man, the Skins played a really lackluster game that day. It was a loooong ride home on the metro from RFK after that game! |
