The Zimmermans 12-07-2006, 11:42 AM We need to stretch the defense more and spread out our offense, which would give betts more room to run. I've noticed that we are the only team in the NFL who doesn't spread out the opposing teams defense. We don't put our receivers out wide enough, enabling the opposing team to account for the run. I'd like to see better spacing from our offense, opening up bigger gaps, enabling big time home run runs from betts
In a perfect world and that of the Skins of old. Nobody on the field didn't know they were gonna' see the Counter tre or some version of it, many times. Gibbs ran it mercilessly. The Hogs just blew you off the ball. He ran it until you commited your entire team to stopping it. Then JT, or Ryp delivered a laser guided dart 30 yards downfield to one of the streaking Smurfs driving a 6 point spear through the heart of your team. THAT is Redskin football

Aaahhh...brings back so many great memories!!!
Monkeydad 12-07-2006, 01:43 PM I like watching the Wishbone offense. 3 backs, some BIG backs, run the option, only pass on trick plays and playactions.

Yeah I know...it doesn't work in the NFL.
(Or WILL it? Has it been tried?)
I guess I like it so much because I love using the rushing game...like the Redskins have traditionally done.

redsk1 12-07-2006, 02:07 PM I would like to see a balanced offense similar to KC's offense the last 5 years.

the power of some of those offenses was incredible. The D's were damn near as good. I always felt like 2 minute to go, 10 points down............no problem! Usually it wasn't. I have not had that confidence about the Skins since Joe1. I must say, young JC gives me some of that feeling..........or at least he will
Beemnseven 12-07-2006, 06:10 PM Actually Rob you're probably not too far off from what Al Saunders wanted to do with this offense. He wanted it to be unpredictable...hence the reason why he doesn't like to call the same play twice in on game...or heck in several games. It does make it hard for the other teams to prepare. The only problem is, our offense just wasn't to the point where it could execute every play he pulls out of his playbook. I believe the lesson to be learned is, we do have to establish an identity and this offense needs to learn what it can do best within Saunders' scheme. I think once that happens, then you can slowly work that sense of unpredictablity into the mix.
Hey, come to think of it -- when was the last time you saw a flanker screen? With Philly sure to bring the blitzes, hopefully Al will be ready with some quick passes to get the ball out of Campbell's hands as quickly as possible.
GTripp0012 12-07-2006, 08:13 PM Okay, maybe to better understand others' point of view as to what they expect from our offense, I was wondering what type of offense do you like to see on the field? An explosive offense that scores quickly with bombs on every drive or hard nosed time consuming offenses that maybe not score alot of points, but muscles their way over the defense?
I think I tend to be in between. I think football is about toughness and not finesse so much. I like offenses who run the ball down the defense's throat and once the defense is on the ropes, you hit them with the knock out punch ---- big play action pass to your WR on a go pattern! I like offenses who can chew up 8 or 9 minutes of the clock. To be honest, I wouldn't mind us winning 3-0 in every ball game as long as we win.
So tell me about your favorite offense?I like offenses that have a rep as a throwing team, maybe 65% passing, but quietly have one of the most efficient running games in the NFL. So you have your back averaging 5.0+ YPC, getting all those big plays while its the passing game that moves the chains. I think that's the way to go in todays game.
As a coordinator, I could see myself doing the opposite of conventional logic as much as possible. I'd probably throw on most first down plays and run on 3rd and mediums. Anything to get that first down, and I wouldn't worry about being a goat in the media for a "questionable call" when I baffle defenses so often.
