I like an offense that scores more points than the defense allows.

I would like to see a mis-direction, power running, play-action type of offense. An offense that could pass, run and play-action out of the same formation, so that the deffense whould have to honor all three or we could catch them out of position. Basicly, do not let our formations give away what the offense wants to do. Also, I would like to see an offense that excutes near perfection.

The most important thing is to tailor your offensive approach to the strengths of your personnel. Our O line is big and strong but not that fast, ergo they are built for smashmouth ball control football, or whatever you want to call it. We saw this year what happens when you try to implement a new offensive system without custom fitting it to the personel on the field - disaster.

This was the beef I always had with Spurrier. He wanted to see if his system worked in the NFL and didn't care if had the players to execute it or not. Same thing with Saunders. Bellicheck is obviously the gold standard of coaches. What have you seen in NE is an offense that has evolved from season to season, and even from week to week. SD is an example this year of a coach changing his approach based on his roster. There are a million other examples.

So what do I like to see? I agree with Spurrier. My favorite play is touchdown.

I like to see an offense that is based on the run, but when they throw, they take shots down the football field. That's why I didn't like the crap that was going on with Brunell where every play was taking place within 8 yards of the line of scrimmage. I like watching highlights of the Skins running and then Rypien gunning down the field in 91. That's what they need. Teams at least have to respect the deep ball. Then, everything would be more effective. An offense has to be unpredictable now. It can't be "they know what's coming, they just can't stop it." That doesn't happen anymore. Teams are too good, too fast and do too much research. Offenses have to be unpredictable and that means having a balance.

Sellers and Duckett in the backfield, Moss and Lloyd/ARE split wide. Duckett runs, Sellers blocks then Sellers runs and Duckett blocks. Safeties sneak in to support the run D. Wideouts go deep on post patterns and Campbell lets it fly.

Replace with Portis as you see fit once he's healthy and happy.

One that scores points would be fine by me.

give me an offense that runs the ball and hogs the time on the clock and wears defense down then once they strat ganging up on the run hit them deep.

I want to run that good ole Gibbs offense! Meaning I want to pound the run game, and go deep with play action. I love Al Saunders and I think he's a great offensive coordinator, but Joe Gibbs is a Super Bowl championship(s) coordinator, which is totally different. I think Saunders has helped Gibbs with catching up to todays pass schemes, and for that I'm sure Gibbs is greatful. But now I think Joe Gibbs understands what defenses are doing and it's time to bring back his Super Bowl mind.

I would like to see a combination of the Joe Gibbs power football offense and Al Saunders offense when he was in KC. I feel once the offense gets used to the nuances of Saunders system you will see it work. Both Gibbs and Saunders have a very balanced system, just look at the history of both.

I believe now that we have JC starting you will see the offense improve through the remainder of the games.

I agree with you! I guess that is why we go back to the argument of player selection. It's not always the scheme, but you gotta have the right type of players to run the scheme, and it's won and lost in the trenches. It doesn't really matter how good your other guys are on offense...QB, WRs, RBs. If the offensive line isn't getting it, then the offense can't be successful. That is the main problem with the Cardinals. They have talent at the other positions, but no offensive line. At least for us, we do have a good offensive line that is built for smashmouth football. That is why, normally, we win when we run the football more than passing. So, in this instance, it's not necessarily the fact that Saunders' offense doesn't work in Washington, nor that the personnel - QB, RB, and WRs don't fit into the system, but that it requires more athletic offensive linemen up front.

I guess the whole moral to the story is, we need to upgrade our linemen if we want to open up the offense more. Maybe have our current linemen in on heavy jumbo.
