CrazyCanuck 12-04-2006, 07:27 PM "Be careful what we wish for"???? Are you kidding me? HOW COULD IT BE ANY WORSE?!
Here's how it could be worse:
- We could have the same record with a decent but soft coach who could never get his players properly focused or motivated. We could put up with this for 7 years, while only tasting the playoffs once. (The Turner Era)
- We could hire some flashy college genius to come in here and revolutionize the modern NFL offense. He could totally abandon the defense, while his offensive "blocking" schemes rattle our young QB so much that he never fully recovers. And he could do all this to pad his own ego without giving the slightest thought to the future or stability of our franchise. (The Spurrier Era)
- We could hire Dennis Green.
paulskinsfan 12-04-2006, 07:35 PM Ok you tell me, what exactly have the coaches in NO, NY, and SF done that's so great?
As for talent I disagree. Spurrier left this team in shambles. When Gibbs arrived there were 2 legitimate NFL players on this team - Coles and Bailey - and both wanted out.
One word what those teams have that we dont....hope. They have shown that they can build a team with good young talent through the draft and free agency, we have not. Plus, they are still in contention for the playoffs.
CrazyCanuck 12-04-2006, 07:44 PM The description under your name is pretty ironic, CC. There are still 4 games left to play but it's already "on to '07," but it isn't because the coaching staff is doing a bad job?
I never said the coaching staff wasn't to blame. I haven't disagreed with any claims made about the clock management, talent evaluation, etc.
But it bugs me to hear Redskin fans trying to run Gibbs out of town. He is the greatest coach in franchise history. He has 3 rings. The one playoff appearance we've had in 3 years under Gibbs 2.0 matches the one playoff appearance we had in 11 years after he left. But most importantly he cares about the future and stability of our team.

Maybe you don't have hope. But don't speak for everyone. I, and I'm sure many others, see a lot of young talent on this team. Campbell, Cooley, Moss, Portis, Lloyd, Taylor, McIntosh, Golston, Washington, (just to name a few)

sean taylor, carlos rogers, chris cooley, jason campbell, marcus washington, santanna moss, clinton portis, they all seem to be young and talented. we were a good team last year, a bad team this year but with gibbs and greg williams running things i have , not only "hope" but "confidence" that we will return to greatness.

Did I ever say I was speaking for you or anyone else TAFKAS? I have my opinion, you have yours.
CrazyCanuck 12-04-2006, 08:28 PM It's funny how Skins fans view Joe Gibbs compared to other legends in other cities. For example, here in Pitttsburgh. They have been calling for Bill Cowher's head practically the entire season, criticizing everything from his drive to his lack of "chin" this year. And he won the Super Bowl LAST YEAR! Gibbs last won a super bowl in 1991 and he gets this lifetime free pass. I don't get it.
In my books Gibbs does get a lifetime free pass, and he deserves it.

I have hope and the only reason is Joe Gibbs!
CrazyCanuck 12-04-2006, 08:35 PM I agree with you on your Gibbs points and I think the guy who called us the Arizona Cards of the East is overexaggerating. But I just want to point out to be fair that 25% of NFL teams get within a game of the Conference Championship every year. 25% of the NFC gets within a game of the NFC championship every year.
So while I think Gibbs should be commened for the job he did with the offense and turning the season around last year, but getting within one game of the conference championship isnt THAT great of an accomplishment.
I agree, I'm not saying that making the 2nd round of the playoffs is some amazing feat. But to compare us to the Arizona Cardinals makes no sense at all.
CrazyCanuck 12-04-2006, 08:38 PM And for the record my vote still shows "no", even though that was my reply to the original question.
I know it doesn't really make a difference, just wanted to clear my conscience.
