GTripp0012 12-03-2006, 09:49 PM I think we NEED both Gibbs and Saunders back next year for any chance of success. They are smart, humble people who will get this thing worked out.
Gregg Williams, on the contrary, needs to show two things (if he deserves to be back next season):
1. He hasn't lost the unit.
2. He can produce results with the players HE brought in.
This can be shown through significant improvement the next 4 weeks. If they finish ranked 28 or below...we really are better off firing him and gutting the thing. We can not afford to suffer through another rough defensive year in 07, and be forced to makes cut in 08, we need to make the cuts THIS offseason if we are not going to compete for a title next year.
Gregg Williams should be under the microscope...show me you can help us win next year!
724Skinsfan 12-03-2006, 09:54 PM Nice post, GTripp!
SmootSmack 12-03-2006, 09:55 PM We're not going to be able to get the Patriots GM. Would Russ Grimm even want to come back to Washington after Dan Snyder got rid of him as the o-line coach in 2000 and after he fired Gibbs?
I think it was a Marty call to get rid of Grimm. Snyder should have stepped in, and my understanding is he wanted to, but he was trying to show everyone that he was true to his word and would be totally hands off.
I don't see any shot of getting the Pats GM either. Interestingly enough, the Pats GM lets guys go all the time. Even guys who can still play at a very high level, but last I checked they still have Tom Brady. And, quite frankly, that's all they need (apologies to Stephen A. Smith)
SmootSmack 12-03-2006, 09:57 PM If I remember right, paulskinsfan said before last year that he was through with this team. No more false hopes, 8-8 at best. Then we made the playoffs and paulskinsfan said.....
paulskinsfan 12-03-2006, 10:03 PM I also said I didn't care if we won another game after beating Dallas in the Ring of Horror game. What's you point? Year 3 means results, and Gibbs hasn't had them.,
SmootSmack 12-03-2006, 10:08 PM Well we did make the playoffs last year. And hopefully, we have our QB for the next several years. And several other stud young players (providing we re-sign them).
Look, I'm not happy with the season. But I don't think cleaning house is the answer.
GTripp0012 12-03-2006, 10:11 PM Year 3 means results, and Gibbs hasn't had them.,That's assumes:
1. By the end of year 3, one has yet to produce any sort of result.
2. It doesn't appear that said coach is on the verge of progressing.
We had results in year two and blaming that on dumb luck is no different than blaming everything thats gone wrong this year on dumb luck (a lot is actually luck based).
I tell ya, I like where this offense is headed in the future under Gibbs/Saunders.
There, its settled.
DGreen28 12-03-2006, 10:11 PM I also said I didn't care if we won another game after beating Dallas in the Ring of Horror game. What's you point? Year 3 means results, and Gibbs hasn't had them., He had results Last year. Media pressure and Threads made him change the offense to this trash
soccercycbk 12-03-2006, 10:14 PM Skinsguy, i've read everythign youve typed. you say it's not Gibbs' fault for play calling and clock management because that's Saunders job...but were they good they good the last 2 years...and whose decision was it to bring in AL? And you say the play calling today was exactly how you would've called it... Let's see, off the top of my head..3rd and 2 in 4th Q, it is obvious we are going to go for it on 4th if we dont get the first, but we go with 2 passing plays, and turn the ball over on downs. With the way the running game was going your telling me you wouldve done the exact same thing?? Please. The final drive..1st and goal. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd downs were complete BS. You wouldve spiked the ball too? You wouldn't have run with TJ?? And no he's not blaming the defense because that's not the point he's trying to make, and do i really need to back up the D? it has been top ten the last 2 years, and it is the reason this team has won most of the games it has under Gibbs. Gibbs does have control of bringin in/letting go players on Defense, and in my opinion, the poor play of the defense is mainly due to the players we have on it.
Matty, r u serious? You don't think he made one good point?
Let me rewrite the original post.
Im a Skins fan of over 20 years. Im sick and tired of the poor clock management, poor play calling at the end of the game, and poor personnell decisions. All of these are the responsibility of Joe Gibbs. Thus, reluctantly, I am now of the opinion that he must step down. The play calling and clock management have been atrocious for 3 years now. Good Bye Joe
Paul is absolutely right. We have had poor clock management, poor play calling, and poor personell decisions while Gibbs has been here. Whose fault is that other than Gibbs? That's the point he's trying to make and a lot of you are just denying the fact of the matter.
Hog's Breath 12-03-2006, 10:31 PM My only griping with the coaching is that we have so freakin' many of them!
Why do we need so many? Too many cooks in the kitchen if you ask me. We may need to trim some of that fat in the offseason. Get some assistants that the players respond to better, maybe. And I don't mean GW or Al.
No offense, but I think getting rid of Gibbs is one the most stupid things I've heard. We've got him for two more years and I'm glad he is going to ride it out. I don't want to rebuild this team, so we can be shitty for another three years.
To all you JG haters out there, I'm just as disappointed as you about how things have turned out. We'll bounce back...
