JoeRedskin 12-01-2006, 05:14 PM As for the rest of your predictions CR - Archuletta is not likely to go anywhere in '07 - cutting him (pre-july 1) means a 9M cap hit. That's a tough one to swallow. Even if they split it, it makes 2008 pretty tough.
Wynn may be gone but I expect that, as he is a Williams and locker room favorite, he will renegotiate or take a real money cut to stay. If not, I agree that he is likely gone.
Rumph, Wright - probably gone. Wright is only signed through this year anyway. Rumph can be cut with no salary cap implications.
I'll let the coaches figure out the Betts/Duckett/Sellers/Cartwright logjam. I expect we could live with either Betts or Duckett.
As for your FA's, I'll take your word on Redding until I hear otherwise. I don't see the Pats letting Gay or Graham go and, given our cap situation, I don't see us being able to afford Grant.
As for the draft, only two comments: 1) that's a pretty ambitious trade scenario and, while anything is possible, I just have not heard anything about this draft that would create the number of trading partners necessary to accomplish all of these trades. 2) A punter and kicker in rounds 3 and 5? I seriously doubt that's going to happen. Especially since I don't think that we will have the number of draft picks you are prediction.

You did see that I agreed with you on Brunell? See, I am not a meanie red-head basher all the time.
hesscl34 12-01-2006, 05:27 PM I have generally avoided these off-season threads 'cause, well, it's still IN season and, win or lose, I am going to enjoy these 16 weeks dammit. With that said -
Brunnell is here next year as the back up. Yes, carlosrodgers, Brunell's salary is 6.6 mill but his release fee is 4.3, so the net gain is only 2.3 million (and that's not even considering the likelihood of a renegotiation). While we could probably get someone as a street QB to come in, you completely overlook the fact that Gibbs loves Brunnell. He certainly is capable of managing the offense (not spectacularly but solidly) and provides the veteran back up Gibbs likes. We will probably get a 3rd string rookie/developmental QB.
So mark this one down - I'm with Hess on this one. No need to be insulting about the difference of opinion here. Clearly, when it comes to Brunnell, passions understandably get aroused.
:goodjob:

I was just about to say literally everything you just said, with the addition of a few things
-We wouldnt restructure Cooleys or Taylors contracts-they still hace their rookie contracts to finish
-Why would we want a new punter? Frost has been money all season
-I like the Reding signing, but if we do that we wouldnt draft a DE
-You failed to recognize our DT problem, Saleve'a is junk, Golston is good but not a starter
-Gay is very injury prone- unless we can get him in a deal that costs a small amount of money, I wouldnt
-Where do you the value of the contracts from?
I think you did a good job of researching, but I don't get your logic on alot of things, too many to mention specifics.
BeastsoftheNFCeast 12-01-2006, 05:33 PM As for the brunell situation, I think we should wait it out, and hope he retires so we dont have to take the cap hit, if not we should release him, hes not doing anything, he'd still be a high paid player if his contract is restructured because of his prestige and the fact that we know he wont take a long term contract, and his skill decreases year but year
Paintrain 12-01-2006, 05:42 PM do you UNDERstand ITS ALOOOOOOOOOOOOT CHEAP JUST TO keep springs ar c, and sign a safety , than to pay clements 50 million, and gay is not a starting cb he is nickle ,dime cb that is hurt alot, but can play vs no 3 or no 4 cbs.
dude stop thinking so hard
keep springs at cb. sign dion grant to play safety , sign gay to be the nickle dime guy.
Since when has being cheap been an offseaon issue for the Redskins? '$=Cap'-Vinny Cerrato..
Deon Grant is adequate at best at safety, paying Clements won't be a problem.. He's a bit inconsistent but I'd feel better with Clements, Springs, Taylor, Rogers than Springs, Rogers, Taylor, Grant. We also don't know how Taylor, who is a headcase, will relate to Grant but he and Springs already have a history together..

ok tell brunell to take a 5 million $ pay cut then :food-smil

redskins dont have the cash to pay clements, if you pay him 55 mill
then forgeet about signing the first round pick , dockery is lost, betts and duckett, and no other free agents sign.

clements first year would only cost 3-4mill, that's brunell and wynn. i don't think dock betts and duckett are going to get the deals you think they'll get.
