Don't give up hope until it is impossible but it is funny to see how sentiment changes after one win! This time last week there were threads about us getting a top 5 draft pick and now we are going to the playoffs!! I'd just like to see the team play with the commitment and spirit they showed today, see the D play like they did today and see Campbell continue to improve. If those things happen then the wins will take care of themselves.
I suppose that one thing in our favour is that there don't appear to be many consistently strong teams in the NFC so who knows?

still doubt it. our offense has had more bad weeks than good ones, and our defense has played well in exactly ONE game so far this season.

I second that, this even if we win out, we played like total shit this year. We don't deserve the honor of playing in the playoffs.
Just like John Madden said last night, it's the teams that get it together from Thanksgiving on who can do the most damage in the playoffs. It is a slim chance that we make the playoffs, but if we can get it together and string five NFC wins in a row, it may be enough to get us there. Once you get there it's a whole new season. We're not in a much different position than last year because of the records of the other NFC teams ahead of us. Our 4-7 this year is pretty comparable to our 5-6 last year. I'm not going to hold my breath yet, but if we win the next two home games...look out.

Playoffs or not, I just want us to finish the season strong and build on that for 2007. Last year we finished strong but weren't able to carry that over into this year. Don't want that happening again

It's almost Gibbs-time anyway. December.
I doubt there's any way the Cowboys drop 3 games for us to win the division even if we DO win out.
It's all about the wild card. And even THAT'S crazy talk.

The playoffs are a pipe dream at this point, I'm with you I just want to see them finish strong and play with the same effort we saw yesterday.
For one game it felt like we were watching the defense of the past 2 years. Guys flying to the ball, guys playing with some heart and fire... man I really missed that!

It was nice to watch the defense and not worry about them getting shit on with every play. I heard on the radio on the way home that they were lining Holdman up behind Daniels and Washington behind Carter for some plays. Was this true? Because it looks like THAT might have helped the run defense.

Just for fun here are the teams we need to pull for next week (Week 13). The team in paranthesis is who they are playing against which is in our way for a wildcard. Don't get mad when you see two particular teams that I suggest. And remember, just...for...fun!
Dallas (Giants)
Eagles (Panthers, I'm assuming the Eagles will lose tonight)
Bears (Vikings)
Jets (Packers)
Washington Redskins (of course)
Saints (49er's)
Arizona (Rams)
This would put us surprisingly close to a wild card spot (one game behind). It's actually not too unrealistic. Maybe the Arizona/Rams game.
In Week 14 here are the teams we need to pull for:
Panthers (Giants)
Washington Redskins (of course)
Lions (Vikings)
Packers (49er's; assuming Green Bay loses tomorrow)
Tampa Bay (Falcons)
Bears (Rams)
I just posted this in the "Giants lose" thread:
"Can someone start a thread about the playoff implications of NYG v.Dallas this weekend? Who should we root for?
Dallas is 1-3 in the division like us, NYG are 3-0 I think. If G-men win, they hold a crucial tiebreaker both in head to head w/dallas & in division record. We could then surpass Dallas' div. record if we beat philly & nyg.
My heart is w/the G-men because I hate them less, but it may make sense for us to hope that the G-men continue their freefall & lose a wild card spot to us (Wishful thinking that we'll run the table of course)."
So you've answered the question, but you're assuming Dallas will win the division. That looks like the way it should pan out. The G-men could still win it & we could have the tiebreaker over Dallas for a wildcard as well. That would mean they would have to go 2-3 to finish, unlikely at this point. They have:
at NYG
NO
at ATl
Philly
Detroit

Making the playoffs, is not realistic. Finishing strong, is within reach. It took Gibbs too long to realize the team was going nowhere with Mark Brunell. I really would have liked to have seen how Jason Campbell would have performed with a healthy Portis and Moss. Next year.

I just want Tomy Romo to start looking like shit so people can take their mouths off his shaft.
