Great article, though it is disappointing to hear about all the breakdowns in protection.

To Analyze Campbell, 'Jaws' Goes Straight to Video - washingtonpost.com (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/23/AR2006112301041.html)

Great read! I have respect for Jaws, and I feel like he says what he thinks. Fair assessment for JC. Good soild performance. Good call on the line as well. Full of holes this season

Great, great article. It's disconcerting to hear a second knowledgeble source comment on Jansen's lack of stoutness. We must improve up front. In watching the Chefs last night, I noticed that their line is very quick and agile. I think this is key to executing Saunder's running game. Our guys seem stiff and slow compared to them. (The Chefs and the Broncos have two of the lightest O-lines in the league). If we stay with Al, we need to make some changes there. Bugel may not be the right line coach to teach those techniques. His background is all about size and strength and overwhelming the defense. Power football. I'm not saying we should stay with Saunders, but if we do, we have to make changes.

The other disappointing comment was to hear that Campbell was late with the ball. The QBs that have been successful in this type of attack (Troy Aikman and Trent Green leap to mind) were great at releasing the ball just as the receiver was coming out of his break. This requires field vision and anticipation. I remember being at Fedex in '98 and Green threw a deep out to L. Shepherd that was gone before Leslie even made his cut. I had a great angle on it. When the ball is released on time like that, the defenders get frozen because the receiver hasn't given them anything to react to yet. Henry Ellard was great at that. Great at not tipping off the secondary. When he got to the top of his route he could break it off any of six or seven different ways and only the QB (hopefully) and the coach knew which way that was. With Campbell, though, it may be that he just needs to gain more familiarity with the system. I hope that's the case. Some quarterbacks just can't do it. I saw Tony Banks play for us a couple of times in person and he could not release the ball until he had seen the receiver standing there open in the same spot for at least three seconds. I exagerate, but you get the idea.

yeah, great article. I read it & had both hope & despair, but like Jaws said things like the missed protection happen all the time to teams w/bad records, it seems an indication of poor effort or communication, but hopefully isn't an indication of poor personnel.

Campbell's flaws right now are to be expected. For his first start I came away very impressed. He can only improve from here on out.

I'm really hoping that Jansen's struggles are due to injury more than anything else. Remember after the win over Dallas he was limping badly. As we've seen in the past from him he'll play through just about anything. He could be hurting more than we even know right now.

I hope that is the case! We really need him to anchor this DAMN line

The most encouraging thing is that they think he is an NFL quarterback - something that could not be said of a number of recent QB busts (Shuler, Wueffrel or however you spell his name, etc). Worrying that the o-line is giving up such big plays and I'm concerned that this can't be rectified with current personel.

Remember after the win over Dallas he was limping badly.

On Monday Night Live he claimed that it wasn't a limp. He said he was just being goofy.

#1 I love how he calls out the Saunders-haters.
#2 Jansen has been getting bull-rushed and beat around the edges for quite some time. He hasn't been a top-flight RT in 3 years.
#3 Definately encouraged by the article.
