No.1 pick?

I agree that we need help at the D-line and thats our #1 priority but I don't think MLB is a pressing issue, cuz we have good LB's at the startin positions and a little depth. As far as DB's I am hearing from different places that we are gonna make a run at Nate Clements from Buffalo (who is a gregg williams kinda guy), so i don't think the DB's are an area we address in the draft either.

We do NOT need to make a big splash in to the FA market this year outside of that b/c what this team needs is CONTINUITY. We are inconsistent cuz we have no way to develop chemistry if we keep swapping out players for big name FAs every offseason. Not to mention FedEx field's ticket prices are skyrocketing every year.

The way that the team is playing and the schedule we have left means that the no.1 pick is not beyond the realms of possibility (who would have guessed that before the season started). At the very least we look a lock for a top 10, maybe top 5.

So, what is our greatest need? I say a stud DE or MLB.
Stud DE is the first priority. Carter is an absolute bust. Until the Skins can pressure the QB with the front 4, our DBs will be hung out to dry. A top-10 pick should be high enough to get either Gaines Adams (Clemson) or Quentin Moses (Georgia).

i see us finishing at either 5-11 or 6-10. that'll probably get us a top 10.

Just about every prediction posted on the Warpath so far this year has turned out to be optimistic. I'll bet on 5-11 as the absolute ceiling - with 4-12 even more likely.

Hey That Guy, (or anyone else who knows), what picks do we have left this year?

Did we lose a pick for Lloyd? The 4th rounder maybe? And of course we traded God knows what for Duckett (essentially 3rd round value).

So does that mean we actually have our 1st and 2nd rounders this year?

I get sad every time I talk about this season. I always expect the defense to improve. While I think that our quarterback position has been fixed, I think the defense has huge holes that weren't apparent last year. I expect to see McIntosh inserted ASAP, and if he plays well, then I'll talk about expectations. I think we might win against the Eagles and Giants at home, if, for any reason it's because they're missing top playmakers.

Gibbs has already traded the following 2007 draft choices:

2nd round - to move up and select McIntosh in 2006
3rd round - for Duckett
4th round - for Lloyd (we also threw in our 2006 3rd round pick for him)

We only have our first rounder on the 1st day of the draft. Gibbs had better make it count. He could've had Shawn Merriman or DeMarcus Ware when he selected Carlos "Cushion" Rogers in 2005. Hopefully he learned that soft coverage CBs have ZERO chance without pass rushing D-linemen. If Gibbs doesn't make a push to get either Gaines Adams or Quentin Moses, then I'm ready to remove Gibbs as President of this sinking operation.

Given the number of things that have gone wrong, trading down seems like the right move. God knows we need more picks.

Also, what does our cap look like next year? How much space can we generate with reasonable cuts and restructures? Who nees to be re-signed? I am not against FA--just do your friggin home work this time (not y'all, but the FA!).

D-line, defientely, O-line as well. And I do think we need an MLB one way or the other. Williams seems to like big, slow safties at every position (arch, Lamar). Time to get a real MLB. Oh, and welcome Rajmahal!

Also most likely the Giants won't be playing for anything, so they might be resting their starters. We could steal a game from Carolina or Atlanta cuz those teams are pretty inconsistent.

I have a bad felling that we will try ot go after Nate Clements whom the Buffalo Bills will have the franchise tag on already. The Billls will work out a deal with the Skins for their high first rounder this coming offseason and some other high pick as well (maybe even next years first rounder if the Redskins get too desperate.)

My hope is that they trade down because they need multiple picks. Also my hope is only go after Nate Clements if he is unrestricted - if they place the franchise tag or transitonal tag on Clements do not go after him period. This regime needs to start stockpiling picks the next couple of years and bite the bullet. This will help build depth and also help the team deal with the salary cap.

Agreed on all counts. We need to develop talent esp on defense, cuz when Gibbs retires and Williams takes over (like Snyder promised him), he will have to base this team around his defense for which he needs depth at every position. The blueprint that good defenses like the Raven, Pats, and Steelers have provided is that you need a nucleus of veterans that stay with the team along with the ability to plug in rookies and less experienced but talented younger players who can make an immediate impact. These younger players were drafted and developed by these teams and as a result they have been able to experience sustained success.
