memphisskin 11-19-2006, 10:18 PM Maas is an idiot. The reason we have so many coaches with asst. head coach in the title is to keep the staff together. You can only sign an asst. coach from another team if you give the guy a promotion. So by naming all these guys "asst. head coach" you keep them in the fold since there really isn't a title between asst. head coach and head coach.
I don't think we have a problem with our chain of command, or our personnel. I think we have a problem of perception. 2 years ago we were a bad football team, and through 11 games last year we were a bad football team. We got hot at the end of the year, but in the playoffs we eked by the Bucs with the lowest total yardage for a playoff winner in NFL history. I think Gibbs was trying to address that with Saunders and it hasn't worked out as of yet, but it will.

Yeah, I keep wondering about the great run at the end of last year. But if you look at it, we barely beat the Cardinals thanks to a punt return for a TD by a guy who's no longer on the team. Then we beat a very bad Rams team with their third string QB, kicked the crap out of flawed Cowboy and Giant teams, and came from way behind to beat the Eagles without McNabb and Westbrook.
So I don't really know how "great" or "talented" that team was, as much as we milked the most out of what we had against bad teams at just the right times.
skinsfan69 11-19-2006, 11:43 PM If anyone is interested, you can go to Fox Sports and comment on the "quality" of the announcers of this game, specifically Bill Maas. The website is FOX Sports - More Sports - Feedback (http://msn.foxsports.com/feedback). Personally, whether a fan of the Skins or not, his behavior and comments were totally inappropriate and unacceptable. Even The Washington Post already has a survey regarding his non-journalistic biased banter. I encourage you to help Fox Sports see to it that his contract is quickly terminated so he can go back to sniffing glue.
Why is everyone getting all bent out of shape over this? When you bring in a bunch of overpaid FA's, have 20 coaches and your 3-7, your going to get lit up by the announcers. WTF do all those coaches do? Both Gibbs and Saunders son's are on the offensive coaching staff. WTF do those two do? Watch video all day? What does Breux do? What does Jack Burns do? I'll tell you what they do. Collect a fat paycheck. Mass was right on the money with his comments and I didn't have a problem with it. Sometimes the truth hurts.
Maas ruins the game experience, simple as that. That's worth complaining about if you ask me.
bjschmonsees 11-19-2006, 11:51 PM Bill Maas is an Idiot. With a capital I.
wbecker999 11-20-2006, 03:25 AM I had to mute the tv, He was even bugging my wife , Shut the f up Maas
vaoutlaws2006 11-20-2006, 05:46 AM maas is awful
MonkFan4Life 11-20-2006, 09:25 AM I swear he was chewing while making a comment once too ! He said something and then he repeated it and I swear it sounded like he was eating and talking. I really hate it when Washington is bad because they send Maas to cover the Skins games. I thought he was going to give Gradkowski a BJ during the game for showing his "passion" for the game.
hurrykaine 11-20-2006, 01:27 PM To me, the "too many cooks in the kitchen" argument is getting a little old. During Gibbs 1.0, he still had Bugel coaching the line, Simmons coaching the tight ends, Breaux w/ the running backs, Jack Burns doing whatever, and Dan Henning doing something.
The problem isn't the number of coaches or whether their titles conflict.
It's the players this pathetic front office has assembled.
Yes, but the players we bring in are based on the assessments of the individual coaches. Blache and Lindsey bring in their guys from Chicago (HoldMan, Daniels), Gray and Williams bring in their own guys (Vincent, Prioleau), etc. Its almost as though each of these coaches is getting way too much say in who we bring in (because of their previous experience as a headcoach/coordinator).
That Guy 11-20-2006, 03:25 PM well, you should be able to bring in guys that know your system. for depth it's not a terrible idea, but whoever thought these signings were ideal needs to get taken out of the personnel loop. bringing in jeff posey for vet min doesn't matter. screwing up the cap with crap like archuleta's contract are future killers.
and while maas was horribly annoying, at least he was well researched and accurate with his information (though he kept leaving the 'A off of saleave'a's name:/). joe buck and some of the other guys that have done skins games clearly didn't know nearly as much about what was going on with the team.
