Why are people making it seem like Jason Campbell is a rushing quarterback?

He's no Vince Young but at least he's also no Drew Bledsoe. :D

Or a Brunell.

Hopefully, the "O" line will block and he won't have to run for his life.

But he looked pretty good throwing the ball on the run.

He's a passer first if I read his stats correctly

I just want a QB who can run forward when needed. Unfortunately, Brunell only went in 2 directions - backwards and sideways.

Campbell ran a 4.69 40, I don't know what you guys are talking about. He can run when he has to, but he is not a scrambler...but he's still way faster than Brunell.

I think college keeps stats differently than the NFL does. I believe the yards lost on a sack comes off of the players rushing total. I think I heard this during a game on ESPN a couple of weeks ago. This could be a reason for his low YPC.

But I agree with the collective. If you want a guy who is going to average 50 yards rushing a game, Campbell isn't going to do that. He may not even look to run more than once a game in a system which emphasizes check downs after the pocket breaks down. Better get it to a guy who is paid to run with the ball than to go for the sideline and take the lick yourself.

sacks count against QB rushing yards and add attempts in college (double whammie).

he has "elite" 4.7 speed :P that's still slower than most NFL linebackers, so no, he'll never be a rushing QB.

rushing gains:
2004: 150
2003: 215
2002: 348
2001: 212

total 925/40 = ~23 yards a game. usually you get less in the NFL due to increased defensive speed, so outside of picking up a few yards when nothing's open, he won't be running around.

campbell seems to have " it" what i mean is pocket presence. being able to tell when to move and slide in the pocket, avoiding pressure. he also will occasionally run, but just for yardage, not those long twisters like vick. i hope the hell our line feels like blocking so campbell doesnt get shell shocked, running for his life
