An obvious question this week has been how much the offense will
change now that it's being run by a younger, more mobile
quarterback with a stronger arm. Assistant coach Saunders, who
calls the plays, said he'll "go in a different direction" with
parts of the game plan. But the coach also said he has yet to fully
implement the schemes that worked so well for him in Kansas City.

"We've not tapped into a lot of things," Saunders said. "It's
not the quarterback; it's the other 10 players. It's the whole
system that has to be developed at a higher level before we can go
to the next step."

He has yet to fully implement the schemes that worked so well in K.C.?? What is going on here? Joe Gibbs was quoted earlier in the season as saying that he was surprised that players were taking so long to learn and adapt to the offense. If this was supposed to be a superbowl run this year, and all indications suggest that is the case, how can this have happened? Was there a fundamental communication breakdown between Gibbs and Saunders and their expectations going into this year? Is there something else happening with some of our offensive players that we don't know?

I think it was the players and the fans who said that, not the coaches.

It seems like it all come down the the O-line with this offense, once they come around, everything should work itself out

Collins said this offense would take an entire year to fully master. Looks like he was telling the truth.

You've just got to hope that with the rest of this season and then the whole of the offseason Saunders can work with Campbell and the rest of the offense and get his system fully in place. We've got to give the guy at two years in my view before we can make a judgement on his offense.

And since the season is basically in the shitter right now, any progress is just gravy from here on out.

At the beginning of training camp Mark Brunell said anything short of a Super Bowl berth would be a disappointment for this season.
So, screw the FO for bringing in a new offensive coordinator to completely overhaul the entire offense. Thanks for wasting yet another season guys.

Too right. All I want to see is some progress (downfield passes, TDs, TOP, spreading the ball around) this season, even if it is small, baby steps. Then, hopefully that can be built on in the off season.

the front office?? this was Gibbs decision to bring Saunders in. He felt it would be better for the offense. I guess 11th in the NFL last season, 6 straight wins playing Redskin football wasn't good enough

That's typical (of late) redskins football. They make the playoff for the 1st time since 2000 and have an offense that is finally starting to click and what do they do for the 2006 season, scrap it all and start from scratch. This organization never builds on anything.

It seems like we all should have realized that super bowl contender and installing a new 700 page playbook were just not compatable.
