He has yet to fully implement the schemes that worked so well in K.C.?? What is going on here? Joe Gibbs was quoted earlier in the season as saying that he was surprised that players were taking so long to learn and adapt to the offense. If this was supposed to be a superbowl run this year, and all indications suggest that is the case, how can this have happened? Was there a fundamental communication breakdown between Gibbs and Saunders and their expectations going into this year? Is there something else happening with some of our offensive players that we don't know?
Gibbs once again ( see the tj duckett trade) freaked out becasue the offense stunk in the playoffs. They just should have added on from last year.

That's typical (of late) redskins football. They make the playoff for the 1st time since 2000 and have an offense that is finally starting to click and what do they do for the 2006 season, scrap it all and start from scratch. This organization never builds on anything.
It seems like we all should have realized that super bowl contender and installing a new 700 page playbook were just not compatable.
For the short run they are clearly not compatible but what about over the course of 4 or 5 years. If it takes this long for the offense to learn it then it's going to take the rest of the NFL a whole lot longer to defend against it.

So now the fans have to put up with another 4 or 5 year plan that has no guarantees of success? Thats asking an awful lot from fans that are spending lots of $ on tickets to sit through another rebuild.
At the beginning of training camp Mark Brunell said anything short of a Super Bowl berth would be a disappointment for this season.
So, screw the FO for bringing in a new offensive coordinator to completely overhaul the entire offense. Thanks for wasting yet another season guys.
Do you truly believe that it is outrageous to still be struggling to resurrect a francise that was allowed to degenerate into complete disarray for the past dozen years or so? To complete a task that 6 or so other head coaches have failed to do in that time frame with this team?

It's certainly a long-term situation, setting everything up so when Gibbs steps asides, he knows he's got quality guys taking over. Same growing pains happened 2 years ago when Gibbs came back. It takes time for an offense to be implemented and click. I don't think the coaching staff thought it would take this long, and thought they had a playoff run in hand.
I wouldn't call this season a waste. It looks like Brunell could be led out to pasture after this season if Campbell does well. Saunders will get all gears going on this juggernaut. While it sucks now, long term is looking good.
nice post BD, agreed. I want the team playing better as well. That apparently is not realistic.............IMO

No, not at all. I'm saying the first year in this offense is a "sacrifice" so that the team can enjoy long term success over the next 4-5 years, hopefully longer but the chances of Saunders staying that long or longer are slim in my opinion.

What else would MB say? As a player that should be your mind set every year and as a team who made it to the second level in the post season that should be the expectations.

Guaranty success? Are we talking about the NFL?
