I think it's very possible that we could have the number one pick. The schedule is pretty tough down the stretch. We have TB, Philly, Giants, Carolina, Falcons, Saints and Rams. Those games could EASILY all be losses. We are looking at 3-13 or 4-12.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. With a new QB and nothing to play for. We could easily lose the rest. At least we beat Dallas.

Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
Fred Bennett, CB, South Carolina
Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson

in that order. I'd like to think that Washington won't pick in the first 10 this year, but things aren't looking good.

brohm might not come out till next year... instead of competing with quinn and troy smith, he'll only have to worry about henne.

the only WR even worth considering (for us) would be calvin johnson because he' SUCH a freak athlete with great work ethic etc... tactically it'd be pretty stupid, but the talent would make it pretty tempting.

I'm not super impressed with the CBs this year, though there are a couple good ones (and yeah, i really like josh wilson, but he's not even projected in the first round right now, much less the top five-ten picks. leon hall is the only CB in that range right now.). Clements would easily beat out the impact we'd get from any CB we could draft, though it'd come at a steep price.

for us, i think our best move would be adam gaines (DE). he's a fairly safe pick, a top five talent, and he'd address a huge need (and add youth to an old starting DL). If you could trade down and still come away with moses (DE), posluszny (LB), or okoye (DT) that wouldn't be terrible, especially if you could end up with a guy like ben grubbs (OG) or a decent CB/DE.

dockery isn't going to get a big contract, so he should be back. last year a late 2nd rounder (like what we had) could have gotten us a day one starter an upgrade there, but we went for a LB that holdman's been able to keep on the bench for a full 10 games instead :/. cheap FA OGs aren't hard to find though.

and rogers is NOT the best tackling CB in the league. champ bailey is better, spring is better, etc etc. he IS a great tackling CB, but there are better tacklers and much much better cover guys.

Why not use a first round pick to draft a cornerback. That is a problem that needs to be addressed with Springs only with a few more years and Rogers struggling recently. Josh Wilson of Maryland will be a stud in the NFL and another quality pick out of Maryland in the last few years.
thats what i am talking about. JOsh Wilson is a mother f...ing monster.

Rogers hasn't been struggling. Seriously. It's like people have that opinion, then they read it and have it themselves. REALLY, what causes anyone to think he's struggling. I think the cushion he gives is due to playcalling, not on his own.
regardless we will need a quality CB to take over for springs when he leaves.

Big C -- I agree, with a top 5 pick this year you can trade down and get very nice value, but Im not sold we'll have a top 5 pick this year yet. We wont have a good pick, but doubt we get top 5.

As far as replacing Dockery, this guy has had a realtively good season and has shown solid progression each year in the league. As fans we constantly complain about the FOs lack of patience and letting talent develop, Dockery is developing. Wanna toss an O-linemen under the bus, it's time for a new RT. Jon "Turnstyle" Jansen isn't cutting it anymore.

I still think we fix our defense up. A lot of it depends on what FAs (You know we're going after some) and picks we have. I'd like to see another corner myself. I think Rogers will be just fine, Corner is a tough position, especially in Williams defense, but Springs isnt getting any younger and I'd like to have a guy who knows the system is Springs goes down or retired in the next couple years (that said, Nate Clements will probably be a Washington Redskin, thus eliminating this need, from a 1st round pick standpoint). I think LB will be fine with Washington, Marshall, and McIntosh. D line could use some depth. O line could use some depth.

For the most part -- leave this team alone! Hold on to Vincent and Priolou (sp?) make minor changes where needed, but let these guys gel! No big changes. Work on depth instead of starters.

Spot on. Trade down, and don't F with the young players, just because there is some old FA who played better last year -- I hate that.

As for the team, I'd focus on a single problem at a time. Every year we try to fix all the problems, all at once -- and then we're a lock for the superbowl ... oh brother, it just doesn't work like that.

I'd start a three year plan. The goal of the plan would be to reach the playoffs in three years, and the superbowl in five. I'd spend the first year improving defense, the second year I'd improve rushing offense, and the third year I'd improve passing offense. Hopefully, by the third year, the team is top 10 offensively and defensively.

That's why I want Clements in FA and move Springs to safety.

we need to make one of those trades like we did with saints when they got ricky williams...think we got like five picks including a future 1st rounder

springs is the best CB we have, and clements-springs-prioleau would still be better than clements-rogers-springs (imo).

and i'm down with getting more OL depth... we do have an option in todd wade on our roster, but he's not really a starting tackle, and even with jansen playing poorly, i'm not sure he'd be better. we do need a starter on the OL to either keep in reserve or possibly try as a starter at RT or LG, but that'd mean two expensive FA signings (two of CB, DE, OL + draft the other)...

i mean, during the offseason we were talking about CB and OL depth, mid-grade FA LBs, P, K, and DEs... at least WR is taken care of :/.
