I thought he had alright signed with Mato, I guess not though... I just hope he gets an agent soon and doesnt hold out to camp.
Hey Joecrisp, can I player go to training camp without a contract? As in, he doesnt want to hold out but forwhatever reason hasnt reached a deal yet. Because that goes a long way to show you want to be with the team, to actually be practicing and letting your agent work out the money part.
It's my understanding that rookies can't participate in training camp without a contract. I'll see if I can dig up the official rule on that.

I believe no player can participate in training camp without a contract.

yeah, so make sure you don't start practicing with the semi-pro team until we get you that phat contract with the big signing bonus

Obviously, it wouldn't make much sense for a player to expose himself to a potentially career-ending injury if he doesn't have a contract or at least some kind of arrangement regarding an injury settlement. Even if there isn't a rule that players must have a contract to participate in training camp, most player agents would never let their clients take such a risk.
I've been sifting through the CBA trying to find some indication of such a rule, but it's tough to find anything amidst all that legal jargon.

I found this old article on the Colts website
http://www.colts.com/sub.cfm?page=article7&news_id=1341
Under NFL rules, players without contracts may not participate in camp.

Way to early to be concerned YET... The word is the Redskins are gong to work on the signings in mid-July.

Yeah, most rookie contracts aren't signed until July, as agents and front offices around the league hash out the contract numbers so that they line up for each rookie based on where they were picked in the draft. That process pushes most of the signings right up to the start of training camp.

This is one of those things where I'd really like to know the background story. Something must have happened for ST to drop his agent between the time of being picked 5th and the first contract talks. This is the first time I ever remembering a top 5 pick to not even have an agent in late June.
