I would say that fans fall into one of three categories.
1. Mark Brunell is washed up and is the reason we are 3 - 6. For many of these folks, it's become personal. Their hatred of Brunell is so strong that is is bleeding on to Gibbs. If Mark Brunell led us to 7 straight wins and a Super Bowl victory, they would still find things to complain about. I suspect that some of them were almost pleased when Bunell threw the pick today. A further subset of this group believes that there is something untoward about the fact that Gibbs and Brunell are both Christians. Another subset consists of the "Fedayeen Ramsey". They were horrified that Ramsey was benched during last year's Chicago game and have never recovered.
2. Mark Brunell is not the entire reason we are 3 - 6, but when you take into account his play, his age, and the investment we have in Campbell, it adds up to a switch. These folks have nothing against Brunell and understand that every team cannot have a Peyton Manning, but believe that Campbell should play now. There most compelling argument is the need Campbell has for playing time and the fact that our playoff hopes are basically gone. They sometimes wonder if it is possible for Campbell to be WORSE than Brunell. Today they thought that. Powerful logic.
3. Mark Brunell still gives us the best chance to win. These folks are becoming rarer by the day. They will concede that Brunell has his faults but they suspect that Campbell must not be all that or else he would be playing already. Yes he has trouble with pressure, but the O-Line needs to play better. Yes he throws short too much, but Al Saunders is at fault as well. These folks consider the #1s to be rather unsophisticated and irrational. Any suggestion that Gibbs is biased towards Brunell is itself evidence of bias. Often these folks will fall back on my favorite gem: "Brunell is a quarterback who needs everyone around him to play well".
I was a #3 until today when I became a #2. How about the rest of y'all?
